On the 20th August, the RSPCA holds Cupcake Day, a day to celebrate all creatures great and small and to also raise money for the RSPCA to enable them to continue their work for animal welfare. If you own a pet or two (or more!) and your friends have pets – or even if they don’t, get everyone together to do your bit and to show your pets you love them by hosting a Cupcake Day party.   more »

Napkin 101

Did you know that there are three different types of napkins? There is the Beverage napkin – and as its title suggests is for functions where cocktails and canapés are served. Luncheon – for the lunch time function and the Dinner napkin, of course the largest napkin and used for dinner. Basically the more food there is, the bigger the napkin!   more »

Creating Fun Balloon Table Centrepieces & Decorations

I love balloons. They are cost-effective and fun decorations that brighten up any room and these days you can find a balloon to suit any occasion. For my kids birthday parties I organise to have an inflated balloon for each child that is attending and secure them to the balloon weights and at the end of the party I then hand the balloons out to the party guests as they leave. The only trouble I have had is chasing the dad’s away from them (helium balloons are like catnip for dads – they just got to try the chipmunk voice).   more »

Creative Ideas to Embellish Paper Lanterns

A few years ago my cousin-in-law was getting married. Unfortunately I was unable to attend, having just had our second baby and my husband was on deployment. I eagerly awaited the photos – their wedding was at his Grandfather’s house over on Magnetic Island, North Queensland. When the photos arrived I was smitten! The blushing bride was beyond beautiful in a vintage lace gown, she made her way down the winding path to her husband to be and the celebrant, under a giant fig tree which was decorated with paper ball lanterns in all bright colours. The swayed and bobbed on the ocean breeze as they were wed. I was so impressed with the day photos, when I saw the evening photos my jaw dropped.   more »

Decorating with Vases

I love vases. I collect them, all shapes, styles, colours I adore them. Throughout my home I have some of my favourite vases on display but I don’t use mine for flowers. I have a vase filled with my favourite shells, another with ornate glass beads I had found at a beading shop. I have a clear vase that I have decorated with buttons, another with crystals. If you are planning your wedding and are looking at table decorations, add a delicious pop of colour to your venue with these new country glass belly vases from Pink Frosting. Available in three different sizes you can dress them up anyway you want!   more »

Biggest Morning Tea Ideas

This is my second year at organising and hosting a morning tea to raise funds for the Cancer Council’s Biggest Morning Tea (27th May – 30th June). It was whilst having coffee with my sister-in-law and our friend that the discussion turned to wanting to do something good, to help something or someone. I had received my fundraising pack the day before and mentioned the morning tea to the girls and next thing we know, we have organised our own Biggest Morning Tea.   more »

Celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in style!

Celebrate 60 years of The Queen's reign - the Queen came to the throne on 6th February 1952 and her coronation took place on 2nd June 1953. Whether you are a big fan of the Royal family or are impartial to them, you have to give the Queen her due. At 86 years of age she is still touring in celebration of her Diamond Jubilee and she still regularly attends events and fulfills all the duties of her title. At this age, the rest of us commoners (!) would be relaxing, taking caravan holidays and playing bingo!!! In Australia there is a public holiday for the Queen’s Birthday in June every year and surprisingly, England doesn’t get this, so I think most people are happy to get an extra day off work this year thanks to Her Majesty!!!   more »

Olympic Game Party Ideas

This year, 2012 is the year for the Olympic Games and this time London will be playing host to the world. Everyone is gearing up for the event which not just focuses on the games itself, but for someone like me who loves a good event – the opening and closing ceremonies will have event planners (including the Pink Frosting Team!) all over perched on their seats, going over every little detail.   more »

Fun at the Fair Party Ideas

Decorate the area with streamers, bunting, fairy lights (not only around the room but along the bridal table, under a white tablecloth) and paper lanterns in various shapes, sizes and colours. Display vintage fair ground posters around the room on easels. Have a balloon stand near the entrance and as the guests arrive, they are each given a bright coloured balloon and party popper. Use bright table cloths of pink, blue, green, red, yellow, orange, gold and black. For the table centrepieces make your own with Styrofoam ball/block in which you set a bouquet of little balloons and party pin wheels.   more »

Mother's Day Luncheon Ideas

“Don’t tell your kids you had an easy birth or they won’t respect you. For years I used to wake up my daughter and say, “Melissa, you ripped me to shreds. Now go back to sleep.” – Joan Rivers.  Being a mum is a tough but incredibly rewarding gig. You have many roles to fulfil as you juggle family life. A mum is a PA, keeping family schedules, booking appointments, setting up play dates, managing the pocket money payroll.   more »

Graduation Party Ideas

Oh my goodness! We are now in May! This year is going by too fast and there are tertiary students that are looking at the calendar and feeling the butterflies knowing that in a few months they will finally wrap up their study and hold in their hands the piece of paper, the qualification that they have worked so hard for. Some may be heading off on travels, or their job will see them heading interstate or overseas. Parents no doubt will be feeling just as anxious and excited as their child and if this happens to be you, you may also be thinking about putting together a party for their graduation.   more »
