Twinkle Toes! Gorgeous Ballet Party Ideas
There is something timeless about ballet that appeals to little girls. Maybe it's the fairytale stories of Swan Lake, The Nutcracker and Cinderella. Maybe it's the innate grace that ballerinas move with. Maybe it's the pretty costumes that the dancers wear. No matter what it is, your little girl will love prancing around in a tutu at her ballet party.
Before you invite a horde of excitable little girls to get hopped up on sugar at your house, it might be worth checking to see whether the dance schools in your area host birthday parties in their studios. This will free you up to focus on decorations and keeping your home tidy.
Have classic ballet music playing during the day. Tchaikovsky is a good bet, but anything from Swan Lake, Coppelia or Giselle will do. If the classical music gets too much for your young guests, find some modern mash-ups or remixes on YouTube.
This is an occasion for going as girlie as you'd like, so feel free to make everything pink and frothy. Tutus and ballet pumps can be quite pricey, so ask your guests to do as well as they can, as long as they dress to theme in pink and white. It might be worth making a few tutus yourself with some pink tulle fabric and satin ribbons. Hand each girl a tiara when they enter so that they each feel like a prima ballerina.
Candy necklaces and bracelets double as tasty treats and pretty jewellery. It's best to hand these out after meals as the sweets are bound to disappear very quickly!
Dainty sandwiches are better than heavy hotdogs for parties such as this. You could even cut them into ballerina shapes. Cupcakes are the way to go for sweet treats. Delicate pink frosting and polka dot cups are ideal.
As this is probably one of the first 'sophisticated' parties for your little girl, eschew the usual party cups in favour of ballet party cups. Even better, use plastic champagne flutes. This will give your little guests a thrill of excitement. Set the scene with a Ballet Birthday Party Table Centrepiece. This pretty little ballerina comes with her own pink honeycomb tutu.
As for activities, that's kind of written into the DNA of the party. Dance! If you have the budget, hiring a dance instructor to show the girls some moves will be something they'll be talking about for months. Failing that, have all your guests try to replicate the choreography of a famous ballet shown on your TV. If this is proving too hard for them, they can try to master a simple dance made up by you. They will feel a tremendous sense of accomplishment if you praise their pirouettes.
