Mystical Winter Wonderland Party Ideas

As a child one of my many favourite collections of stories came from the imagination of C.S. Lewis and his Chronicles of Narnia. A place filled with strange and wonderful creatures and a battle waged between a great and wise lion named Aslan and an evil White Witch who sought to control Narnia and all who lived there. The first book called The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe starts the adventure of four children, siblings Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy who are sent off with all the other children to live out the Second World War in the relative safety of the country side. They end up at a country manor owned by a Professor Kirke.   more »

Okay so turning forty-five can seem pretty daunting. You are now five years off the big five-oh. If you are planning your party or are planning a party for the approaching forty-five year old have some fun with a magic theme. Japanese 25th Birthday Party Ideas

How great is Japanese food? I love it! I am a huge fan of sushi, even more so now I can make it up at home. A few years ago I had the pleasure of stopping by Japan on my way over to Canada and loved the place. Hubby and I really want to take the kids there one day. I think I bought more souvenirs from Japan in the two days I was there than I did in the month I spent in Canada! Their food is so tasty and healthy and sushi night at the Jarvis house is so much fun. So here is an idea for a 25th birthday plan; why not hold a Japanese inspired pre-party dinner? Invite some friends round to enjoy Japanese food and drink before heading out to party the night away.   more »

Day Spa Home Spa Party Ideas

There are mixed emotions when it comes to giving a woman a trip to the day spa for a facial for her birthday. Some (like me) would be eternally grateful that my husband was going to be locked in the house with our two kids whilst I indulged in a facial and pedicure. Other women look at it like the person giving them the gift is implying that their looks are getting the better of them. Each to their own I guess, but at the heart of it all we all love a good pamper. I have even considered a beauty course because it can be so much fun. But for me I love home-made beauty treatments. Yep! Domestic Goddess Home Day Spa.   more »

Starry, Starry Night 5th Wedding Anniversary Ideas

It is funny how inspiration can come from anywhere. For example, when looking at the list of wedding anniversaries, for the fifth wedding anniversary I immediately thought of Vincent Van Gogh’s painting Starry Night (1889). With the sapphire sky and the bright yellow stars that shimmer above the sleepy little village below, I thought that this painting would be perfect inspiration for planning and decorating your venue for a fifth wedding anniversary.   more »

10th Wedding Anniversary Party Ideas

A lot can happen over the course of ten years, especially if it is ten years of marriage. You may have travelled, had a child or two (or three or four!), bought a home, and changed jobs but the whole time as a married couple. Of course you have handled the good with the bad and now you want to mark your tenth wedding anniversary with something special, to thank each other for the commitment and love that is still there and will be there for many years to come. If you ask my opinion, I will straight up say I love a wedding. Any excuse to organise and attend a wedding is a great thing by my book. My husband and I want to renew our vows to mark our ten year anniversary in 2014. For us it is something we can share with our children who were but twinkles in our eyes when we first said “I Do” back in 2004. We want it to be just us and the kids, on a beach and just simple and fun (and maybe gross out the kids who will be 8 and 5 years old).   more »

Cruise Ship 60th Birthday Party Ideas

When I think of 60 year olds, I think of cruises. Watching the travel channel’s program on cruise ships, I couldn’t help but notice that there were heaps of retirees on board, soaking up the sun on the decks and they all look like super relaxed cats – you know what cats look like after getting into catnip? Well that is what these people on this cruise looked like and I thought that would be so nice. When I am 60, I may very well hop on board a cruise ship too! Then I thought, what about those turning 60 who are not too keen on or can’t go on a cruise? Instead of cruising the seven seas and fattening up of cruise ship food why not hold a Cruise Ship themed 60th birthday party? Who’s on board for this?   more »

1st Wedding Anniversary Celebration Ideas

If you are coming up to your first wedding anniversary congratulations! Here’s to many, many more! It is a time for romantic celebration. You can celebrate your first anniversary with your family and friends, but personally I would of celebrated it with my husband. I say would of because our first wedding anniversary was spent with me all the way up in far north Queensland whilst Mike was in Brisbane. I could not even contact him to say happy anniversary. But, we were blessed with the birth of our beautiful niece on our first wedding anniversary. That is pretty wonderful! Also this year we come up to 11 years together with 8 of those years married.   more »

Sydney Mardi Gras Style!

Every year Sydney gets is fabulous on as people flock to witness the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras which has become famous the world over. It is a bright, bold, loud and fun celebration of living and loving and it never fails to disappoint with truckloads of sparkles, colour and vivaciousness. Some groups are satirical – using the Mardi Gras to make a statement (and a poke fun at), others are so theatrical you can’t help but think “Oh wow!” It is a night of frocks and shocks, the big and bold, and the barely there. I love seeing the extravagant costumes and make up as the throng of party goes make their way through the city streets by foot or by float.   more »

All That Jazz 1920's 18th Birthday Party Ideas

A little bit different for an 18th birthday party, and for some a little edgy why not break out the old jazz sounds and host a “Chicago” themed birthday party. Why would this be an edgy choice for a party you ask? Are you familiar with the musical “Chicago”? Based on the Chicago Tribune’s reporting’s of two murder trials of Beulah Annan and Belva Gaertner in 1924, by journalist Maurine Dallas Watkins.   more »

98, 99, 100 - 100th Birthday Party Ideas

I want to live to be a century. According the pros who are living that dream, their advice has been “eat your veggies”, “don’t eat veggies”, “drink beer/whisky/rum/milk”, “smoke”, “don’t smoke”, “live in the country”, “don’t watch the news”, “get out and exercise”, “don’t exercise”, “have nookie everyday”…oh no, wait!   more »

40th Birthday Party Ideas - An Open Letter to Cameron Diaz

Dear Cameron Diaz, It was recently brought to my attention in a tabloid magazine that this year you are turning 40. At first I was shocked that a magazine would reveal the true age of a female celebrity (a lady never reveals her age or weight) and to this day I am pretty sure no one really knows how old the likes of Cher and Joan Rivers actually are. Yes, this story was about you allegedly tweaking and touching up your already beautiful looks to fend off the ravages of time and loves lost as you approach the 4-   more »
