Biggest Morning Tea Ideas

This is my second year at organising and hosting a morning tea to raise funds for the Cancer Council’s Biggest Morning Tea (27th May – 30th June). It was whilst having coffee with my sister-in-law and our friend that the discussion turned to wanting to do something good, to help something or someone. I had received my fundraising pack the day before and mentioned the morning tea to the girls and next thing we know, we have organised our own Biggest Morning Tea.   more »

Celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in style!

Celebrate 60 years of The Queen's reign - the Queen came to the throne on 6th February 1952 and her coronation took place on 2nd June 1953. Whether you are a big fan of the Royal family or are impartial to them, you have to give the Queen her due. At 86 years of age she is still touring in celebration of her Diamond Jubilee and she still regularly attends events and fulfills all the duties of her title. At this age, the rest of us commoners (!) would be relaxing, taking caravan holidays and playing bingo!!! In Australia there is a public holiday for the Queen’s Birthday in June every year and surprisingly, England doesn’t get this, so I think most people are happy to get an extra day off work this year thanks to Her Majesty!!!   more »

Olympic Game Party Ideas

This year, 2012 is the year for the Olympic Games and this time London will be playing host to the world. Everyone is gearing up for the event which not just focuses on the games itself, but for someone like me who loves a good event – the opening and closing ceremonies will have event planners (including the Pink Frosting Team!) all over perched on their seats, going over every little detail.   more »

Fun at the Fair Party Ideas

Decorate the area with streamers, bunting, fairy lights (not only around the room but along the bridal table, under a white tablecloth) and paper lanterns in various shapes, sizes and colours. Display vintage fair ground posters around the room on easels. Have a balloon stand near the entrance and as the guests arrive, they are each given a bright coloured balloon and party popper. Use bright table cloths of pink, blue, green, red, yellow, orange, gold and black. For the table centrepieces make your own with Styrofoam ball/block in which you set a bouquet of little balloons and party pin wheels.   more »

Mother's Day Luncheon Ideas

“Don’t tell your kids you had an easy birth or they won’t respect you. For years I used to wake up my daughter and say, “Melissa, you ripped me to shreds. Now go back to sleep.” – Joan Rivers.  Being a mum is a tough but incredibly rewarding gig. You have many roles to fulfil as you juggle family life. A mum is a PA, keeping family schedules, booking appointments, setting up play dates, managing the pocket money payroll.   more »

Graduation Party Ideas

Oh my goodness! We are now in May! This year is going by too fast and there are tertiary students that are looking at the calendar and feeling the butterflies knowing that in a few months they will finally wrap up their study and hold in their hands the piece of paper, the qualification that they have worked so hard for. Some may be heading off on travels, or their job will see them heading interstate or overseas. Parents no doubt will be feeling just as anxious and excited as their child and if this happens to be you, you may also be thinking about putting together a party for their graduation.   more »

Ideas for Hosting a High Tea Party

If you find yourself organising a kitchen tea or bridal shower, in most cases it would be for your best friend.  I found myself in this very position a few years back (Gill's best friend happens to be Pink Frosting founder, Kathryn Porritt)! I have to admit, up until then I had never been to a kitchen tea and so had no idea what they were or if there were certain rules to follow! Looking back on the whole experience, the best tip I can give you is to follow your heart! I know this sounds a bit corny, but you are the one who knows your friend inside out and therefore your inspiration comes from their favourite things.   more »

Mother's Day Party Ideas

When I was in primary school I remember in the lead up to Mother’s Day we would be busy with craft classes, making gifts for kids to buy and take home to their mum’s for Mother’s Day. Families would donate arts and craft materials and out of it we would make jam jars filled with coloured sand with the lid wrapped in fabric and tied up with a bow. Bars of soap would be wrapped in wrapping paper with a stick on tag saying “Happy Mother’s Day”, little tulle bags of potpourri to go in mum’s underwear drawer.   more »

Ideas for Hosting a Las Vegas Themed Wedding or Party

No place on earth can have a bigger electricity bill than Las Vegas!!!!! An amazing beacon of colourful lights that light up the middle of a desert!  People say how stunning the view is as you fly in over Vegas at night! What a wild and wonderful place! I always think if you are a person who drives eagerly around at Christmas looking at streets and houses adorned with Christmas lights, then you would love to experience this stunning, larger than life, city of bling!   more »

Bollywood Nights - Indian Themed Party Ideas

When Mike and I were dating one of our favourite restaurants’ was this quirky and fun Bollywood themed restaurant. The food was fantastic, the staff was welcoming and warm, the women swathed in bright, pretty saris. The whole place was filled with vivid colours, bright gems and crystals. Fabric was draped off the walls and ceiling and the best bit was the large screen on which they played Bollywood movies. So we could dine, talk and enjoy their movies (and they are pretty cool!).   more »
