Valentine’s Day Dinner for Two Ideas
Show your valentine how much he means to you this Valentine’s Day with a romantic dinner for two. Forget crowded restaurants and bars – wine and dine each other in the intimacy of your own home and whisper sweet words of love by candlelight.
Send your man a special Valentine’s Day card that tells him to expect an evening of romance at home. Try cutting a heart shaped Valentine from beautiful berry coloured paper and inspire him with some romantic poetry such as these lovely words from WH Auden:
I'll love you, dear, I'll love you
Till China and Africa meet,
And the river jumps over the mountain
And the salmon sing in the street,
I'll love you till the ocean
Is folded and hung up to dry
And the seven stars go squawking
Like geese about the sky.
The years shall run like rabbits,
For in my arms I hold
The Flower of the Ages,
And the first love of the world.
If short and sweet is your style, try:
Roses are red
Violets are blue
Join me this evening
At a table set for two
Decorating and styling
Ensure he’s in the mood for romance with a table set for two. Start with a crisp white tablecloth and scatter blood red rose petals down the centre. Add juicy red accents with berry napkin rings and red taper candles in silver candlesticks and dozens of rose coloured tea lights. Turn the lights down low and play some mood music in the background, such as Chet Baker Sings or Frank Sinatra’s Songs for Swinging Lovers.
Menus, catering and cocktails
In the spirit of romance, serve a menu filled with exotic and erotic treats. Start the evening with a bottle of champagne and fresh strawberries, complemented with a platter of delicious cheeses, caviar, pâté and green grapes for a bacchanalian feast.
For a signature cocktail, try a love potion such as the Love Martini. Combine 1 part sugar syrup with 4 parts Vodka and 4 parts pomegranate juice in a cocktail shaker and ice. Shake, strain and serve. Garnish with a lemon twist.
For entrée, serve oysters with a chilli and lime dressing. Then turn up the heat with a spicy tomato salad and fortifying beef medallions in a delicious red wine sauce. For dessert, serve fresh figs drizzled with honey.
Favours and gifts
Give him an indulgent treat to remember your special evening together. Package handmade chocolates in a white takeaway box and tie up with personalised red ribbon, or pour a kilo of Romeo Heart Chocolates into a glass jar. He’ll love it!
