Pink or Blue? Girl or Boy? How to Host a Gender Reveal Baby Shower
There’s so much that is exciting about bringing a baby into the world, no matter who you are or what your situation is. Of course there’s the miracle of bringing life forth into this weird and wonderful place, and it can either mark the beginning of a new family, or the extension of an existing one. But it’s also a great excuse to have a party, so we have put together a few ideas for throwing the sort of baby shower that answers the question on everyone’s mind: boy or girl?
If you are expecting, there are a few things you are probably used to by now, such as people you barely know grabbing your belly and exclaiming how you glow, or everyone checking that you haven’t eaten any raw fish. But there is one question you will get more than any other: what’s the gender of the baby? With a gender reveal baby shower, you can put everyone’s mind at ease at the same time.
The traditional way
Sure, it’s been done a fair amount, but there’s a reason for that – it works. We are of course talking about the gender reveal cake. For décor you can go wild with pink and blue baby shower decorations – balloons, streamers, eating implements – keep the guests guessing. Then when they have all had their fill of tea and scones, gather everyone around to cut the seemingly gender-neutral cake – usually with white frosting. You and your partner can hold the knife together, like you did on your wedding day, and cut the first slice revealing the blue or pink cake underneath the frosting.
For extra cuteness points: get the baker to ice a big question mark on the cake.
The scavenger hunt
This is a really fun way to let the world know what is growing inside you, and it gets everyone involved. Set up a scavenger hunt in the normal way, with each clue leading to the next. Everyone can get involved in the hunt figuring out the clues together. This only works for smaller gatherings though, otherwise people, like Jenny from accounting who was only invited because she’s never been to a party before, will feel left out. Aim for about 10 clues to allow people to really get into it, then the final baby shower prize at the end will be your reveal!
For extra cuteness points: make all the clues baby themed.
Spill it out
One way of revealing the gender of your baby that is becoming very popular these days is confetti. There are a few ways you can use confetti for the big reveal, but we love balloons and piñatas. It’s really simple and inexpensive to do as well. All you need to do is fill some baby shower balloons with pink or blue confetti, and then when you are ready to make the announcement – pop! Or you can use the same idea with a piñata, but instead of pop, smack! A little more hard work required, but also more fun.
For extra cuteness points: write “It’s a…” on each of the balloons.
