Fun Ways to Make Your Wedding Cake Unique
Your name may not be Kim Kardashian and your wedding cake may not be six foot tall, but your wedding cake can be something special with just a little imagination. Whether you opt for a traditional cake or a trendy cupcake tower, the list of ideas for creating a masterpiece is as long as my arm.
First things first. Let’s start with the bride and groom cake topper figurine. Over the years, many couples have place the bride and groom on top of their cake in the traditional ‘we just got married and are kissing each other’ pose. However, some smart cookie has now created bride and groom cake toppers in all sorts of funky poses. The best ones I’ve seen are the ‘Winter Skiing’ bride and groom figurine, the ‘Motorcycle getaway’ figurine and the ‘Football wedding’ figurine where the bride is actually taking ‘a speckie’ on the back of her groom! To see more of these funky cake topper figurines, take a quick peek at Australia’s #1 online wedding shop, Pink Frosting.
If romance is more your thing, I’d be opting for a personalised choice of wedding cake topper. You can actually design your own wedding cake topper in the colour you want with the bride and groom’s names plus your wedding date engraved on the cake topper plaque. A favourite photo of the two of you is also a nice touch to bring romance and love to your wedding cake.
For a bit of style and class, you could always follow the trend of Kate Moss and select a bunch of beautiful fresh flowers to sit atop your delicious cake. Flowers will always be a timeless and classic choice so placing a flower or bunch of flowers special to you and your groom can really add that touch of elegance. Additionally, featuring a few carefully placed crystals or charms among the flowers can present the unique ingredient you were searching for.
Personality and history have a big influence over the style of wedding you plan and the location you choose for your ceremony. So why not include elements of your personality and relationship history as a flavour with your wedding cake. Those of you who adore the butterflies can sprinkle chocolate or sugar butterflies across your cake. If you and your man both support the AFL and are mad Sydney Swans supporters then you may choose to feature a swan on top of your cake. Did you meet at the races? If so, a regal horse feature on your cake may work. What about a special holiday location or area you grew up in? Locals from Phillip Island in Victoria have the cute penguin representing their home town so could incorporate this furry friend with their wedding cake.
If all else fails, you can always do what Prince William and Kate Middleton did. Order an eight tier cake covered in delicious white icing and inform your guests you’re just too posh for all that fuss! Sometimes the motto ‘keep it simple stupid’ works wonders. Piece of cake, right?!
