Disco Party Ideas

Disco parties are a fantastic theme for both kids’ and grown up parties, from the décor to the music to the endless costume possibilities. Think mirror balls, disco lights, Donna Summer, Afros and jumpsuits. If you’re thinking of throwing a disco party and need some ideas, look no further. We will give you all the guidance you need to throw the discolicious bash.

Let’s get this party started!

As you know by now, all themed parties begin with the invitation. This is your guests’ introduction to your party. From the moment they receive the invite, they will start to plan their outfits and building up expectations for the night. And a lot of those expectations will be based on the invitation. We have a few disco themed invitation designs to choose from, and the one you choose will depend entirely on the type of disco you are having. If it’s a children’s party, we recommend the Disco Personalised Party Invitations because the colour scheme will appeal to a younger audience. If you’re targeting an older crowd, we recommend Disco Fever Postcard Invitations. We love the idea of putting some glitter confetti in the envelope with the invitation to really bring the glitz and glam of the night across.

Divinely disco décor

When it comes to decorating for your disco, we have two words for you: mirror balls. Lots of them. Everywhere. Of course you want a few real mirror balls hanging from the ceiling, and you can rent these from music shops or event hire places. But there is so much more to the mirror ball theme than real mirror balls. We’ve got centrepieces, coasters, string lights and piñatas. You can really go to town with it. Then you need to get some colourful disco lights, and make sure you get some of our Neon Disco Balloons, fill them with helium and put them in the corners of the room. And all of these decorations work for both kids’ and grown ups’ parties!

Let them eat finger foods

One of the best things about throwing a disco themed party is that you really don’t have to put too much effort into the food. All you need to do is lay a table with a disco themed table cloth and put out some chips and dips. Then do some of those ‘70s style finger foods with the cubes of cheddar cheese and cut up hotdog sausages on toothpicks. We know that the folks in the ‘70s were great fans of those little pickled cocktail onions, but we would recommend giving those a miss. No one wants onion breath on the dance floor. Then for the coup de grâce, you have to have a bowl of punch. You can find loads of punch recipes online, but rum is always a good bet. To really bring the disco theme home, go to a local charity shop and get one of those kitsch punch bowls that they actually used in the ‘70s. And what do you serve the food and drinks in? Mirror ball paper plates and cups, of course!
