Contemporary Wedding Quotes

Our last post included ten of the best traditional quotes to include in your wedding speech, whether it was for your vows or for your Best Man’s speech. In this post we’ve widened the scope a little. Thrown a bigger net into the wedding quote ocean to see what we could catch, and we came up with some pretty good stuff… if we may say so ourselves.

Weddings are a time for tradition, it’s true. Often times even the most liberal and atheist of couples will find themselves looking at quaint chapels for the ceremony because that’s where society says a wedding should take place. But some couples are headstrong when it comes to keeping their big day non-traditional. We know couples who have had a female Best Man or male Maid of Honour; the family dog as the ring bearer; and walked down the aisle to Sir Mix-a-lot’s “Baby Got Back”. Here are some cute and fun quotes for the more contemporary couples.

“When you realise you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.”

– Nora Ephron, When Harry Met Sally

“Infatuation is when you think he's as sexy as Robert Redford, as smart as Henry Kissinger, as noble as Ralph Nader, as funny as Woody Allen, and as athletic as Jimmy Conners. Love is when you realise that he's as sexy as Woody Allen, as smart as Jimmy Connors, as funny as Ralph Nader, as athletic as Henry Kissinger and nothing like Robert Redford – but you'll take him anyway.”

– Judith Viorst, Redbook

We're all a little weird. And life is a little weird. And when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall into mutually satisfying weirdness – and call it love – true love.”

– Robert Fulghum, True Love

“There's a big difference between falling in love with someone and falling in love with someone and getting married. Usually, after you get married, you fall in love with the person even more.”

– Dave Grohl

“You have to walk carefully in the beginning of love; the running across fields into your lover's arms can only come later when you're sure they won't laugh if you trip.”

– Jonathan Carroll, Outside the Dog Museum

“You know you have found love when you can't find your way back.”

– Robert Brault

“A kiss is a lovely trick designed by nature to stop speech when words become superfluous.”

– Ingrid Bergman

“Love is friendship that has caught fire. It is quiet understanding, mutual confidence, sharing and forgiving. It is loyalty through good and bad times. It settles for less than perfection and makes allowances for human weaknesses.”

– Ann Landers

“I am happier when I love than when I am loved. I adore my husband, my son, my grandchildren, my mother, my dog, and frankly, I don't know if they even like me. But who cares? Loving them is my joy.”

– Isabel Allende

“When I say, ‘I love you’, it's not because I want you or because I can't have you. It has nothing to do with me. I love what you are, what you do, how you try. I've seen your kindness and your strength. I've seen the best and the worst of you. And I understand with perfect clarity exactly what you are. You're a hell of a woman. You're the one.”

– Spike to Buffy, Buffy the Vampire Slayer
