Chalkboard Wedding Ideas

Chalkboards make you feel good. They just do. Maybe it's the association with being a little kid at school, specials scrawled on boards outside cosy local pubs, or signs inside old school sweetshops. They evoke a feeling of nostalgia and memories of the good old days, so that when you see one you can almost smell the sweet, dry scent of chalk dust in the air. Channel these good vibes by subtly threading a chalkboard theme into your wedding.

We have a number of suggestions that can fit within a your chalkboard wedding theme, e.g. rustic, vintage or beach chic. Now, we're not suggesting going overboard by using all of these suggestions, but a few judiciously implemented touches will go a long way towards creating a clean, memorable aesthetic.

Start with the invitations. These can be sent out on special chalkboard cards, with a couple of 'ye oldes' to subtly create a vintage feel. These can be customised to reflect the relevant names, providing an elegant personal touch that will enthrall your guests.

Antique-feel 'this way to the I do's' signs can point guests in the right direction, providing an indication of what kind of affair is awaiting them. They are both tongue-in-cheek and sophisticated, showing that you have a sense of humour as well as classic style.

Personalised place cards with your guests' names scrawled on them will pinpoint their seats, whilst a variety of place-settings/party favours will add interest and dynamism to the tables. Vintage milk bottles filled with sweets and emblazoned with guests' names make excellent gifts. So too will delicious and beautiful bomboniere lollipops with personalised chalkboard wrappers. If you'd rather not put guests' at their mercy of their sweet teeth, perhaps an elegant personalised bottle will do, or pretty candles bearing the names and date of the wedding.

Framed chalkboard signs can point it areas of interest, such as the bar or buffet, whilst guests can have fun with heart-shaped chalkboard clips. Just make sure that they don't drink too much and get too salty with their designs. There's always one inappropriate jokester at a wedding, after all.

Instead of a guestbook, get them to scrawl on a giant chalkboard. It would be understandable to be concerned about this smudging over time, so if you'd like a more permanent reminder, use black foam board and metallic sharpies. These will do the trick and stay in keeping with the look of the wedding.
