Celebrity Wedding Inspiration - Chelsea Clinton
The whole community of Rhinebeck, New York were in full celebration mode in the lead up to and on the day of Chelsea Clinton’s wedding. The daughter of former US President Bill Clinton and New York Senator Hillary Rodham-Clinton, an American Princess was marrying her Prince, Investment Banker Marc Mezvinsky at Astor Court – a lavish estate.
But her wedding was not full of the fanfare one might expect these days. No, simple and elegant their wedding was understated for the reported seven-figure total. Celebrities were kept to a minimum and despite those rumours; Oprah was not at the wedding. Okay so with the setting on the estate, the bride walked down the simple white aisle (the white chairs were left undecorated) with her father, she wore a strapless white silk, organza and tulle Vera Wang gown, finished with a crystal encrusted belt. In her hands she carried a bouquet of white roses. She looked radiant. Their ceremony was a combined affair with Reverend William Shillady and Rabbi James Ponet performing a lovely, light ceremony in which the Bride and Groom reportedly giggled their way through as they were wed under a willow, white rose and hydrangea covered chuppah (Jewish altar).
**Interesting to note too that the bridal party wore wedding gowns that had been dyed a plum hue as they were unable to find suitable bridesmaid dresses! The colour scheme for the wedding was a purple-pink and blue.
As the sun set the happy couple posed for their photos together and with their parents as the sun set behind them. Onlookers desperately tried to sneak a peek over the fences, but were quickly moved on by security. Approximately four hundred people attended the wedding and the reception was held on the grounds of the Beaux Arts Mansion, under a large tent structure. The guests were entertained by an 18 piece band and Bill danced with his daughter to the song The Way You Look Tonight. Chelsea and Marc’s first dance as husband and wife was to At Last. The Jewish traditional Hora was performed – where the bride, groom and parents are sat on chairs which are then lifted up and bounced around whilst the guests cheer. The reception was catered by St Regis Hotel, New York and they prepared short ribs, Atlantic char, and vegetable rolls (gluten-free). Chelsea is gluten intolerant and as such, La Tulipe created a gluten-free wedding cake for them to enjoy.
The after-party kicked on over on the tennis courts with a DJ spinning tracks until the early hours of the morning. According to sources, Chelsea and Marc’s wedding wound down at 4.30am! Epic effort for sure! I love this wedding because it was so chic and sophisticated and totally what I would expect of a politician and former President’s daughter. The whole affair was put together nicely and the locals support for the wedding – decorating shop fronts with congratulatory messages and some donning caricature masks of Bill and Hillary and walking the streets, it looked and felt like New York’s equivalent to the Royal Wedding of Will and Kate.
So how can we acquire the effortless style and look of Chelsea’s wedding? All your décor and accessories are easily acquired from Pink Frosting. To replicate the look, you too can walk down the aisle on a classic white aisle runner. Accessorise your gown with crystal jewellery and veils from Australia’s #1 Wedding Shop. You can choose to leave the chairs or benches bare just like Chelsea did. Get married under a chuppah, decorated with pomanders with white and green ribbons. For your reception stick with the white table cloths and although not too much has been revealed about the reception décor, I would recommend keeping your tables clean, and classic – so a boxwood wreath with a small candelabra or hurricane vase in its centre with candles. Around the outside of the wreath white rose petals and crystal scatters. Place cars, keep chic and sophisticated with either a vintage frame or the treble clef place card holders (a nod to the 18 piece band that played at the reception).
The chairs at the reception decorate with chair sashes in the colour of your wedding and secure them with the pretty crystal clasps. From the ceiling, strands of fairy lights to add that extra bit of sparkle to the occasion. For that touch of “wow” add your own wedding monograms to the dance floor. There it is! A classic - look wedding and reception taken care of with a shopping trip to Australia’s #1 Wedding Shop!
