Wedding Dress, Bridal Jewellery and Beauty

Every little girl dreams of looking like a princess on her wedding day!  Whether you pictured a fairytale ball gown or a sophisticated cocktail number, now it’s time to live out your childhood fantasy.  Your wedding dress will probably the most precious and expensive item of clothing you will ever purchase, so it’s important that you take the time to make the right decisions when it comes to style, fabric and colour, as well as choose the right undergarments.  Then you’ll need to find the perfect matching veil, footwear and jewellery, not to mention the perfect complementary hairstyle and makeup.  Pink Frosting has a run-down of everything you need to know about bridal beauty.

Bridal Jewellery

Bling, bling and more bling!  If you can’t flaunt your ice on your wedding day, then when can you?  Here's our guide to essential jewellery on your wedding day.

  • Engagement ring.  Ah! The (almost) essential wedding day bling! Normally switched to your right hand during the wedding ceremony, your engagement ring is put on your left hand after the ceremony after your wedding ring (with the romantic notion that the wedder is closer to your heart).

  • Wedding ring.  The wedding ring is that one piece of jewellery that is essential to your wedding day!

  • Tiaras and headbands. According to leading international bridal accessories designer, Justine Murray, who owns Justine M Couture and The Tiara Room, we’re seeing a shift from the full, heavy tiara to a more subtle soft headband or hair ornament/comb look.  “Elements such as shells, feathers, velvet, ribbons, filigree and organic pieces are being combined in very interesting ways to create something new and exciting.  Although silver colours and sparkle will never go out of fashion, gold and champagne colours are back in full force, at least for now!”

How to Look Good in Wedding Photos

You’re wearing the wedding dress of your dreams, your hair is shining, your skin is glowing and you feel like a princess.  Of course you want your wedding photos to capture you looking your best.  The solution is simple: master the art of the good photo-face.  Here are renowned Australian fashion and beauty photographer Carlotta Moye’s top tips for striking your best pose (courtesy of Beautyeditor.com.au) . Say cheese…

  • Best face forward: The most flattering angle is when the photograph is taken from above, as this slims down the face. So, try sitting with the photographer standing. Or, you could tilt your chin down slightly - just don’t take the chin too far down because you’ll lose eye contact. Try also tilting your face slightly to the side, so it’s almost at three-quarter. This sets off cheekbones gorgeously, as well as playing up a beautiful cat’s-eye effect. Think about which side is stronger. Everyone has a better side – even models.

  • Suck it up: Here’s Linda Evangelista’s trick for tightening up the jawline: she sucks her tongue to the roof of the mouth. Try it – you can immediately feel your chin and neck become taut.

Choosing the Right White for Your Wedding Gown

Wedding dresses come in so many different shades of white, and some will look better on you than others.  Here’s what you need to consider:

  • Diamond white or natural white: is a soft white, found only in natural fabrics such as silk, cotton and linen. This tone of white works well with fairer brides.
  • Stark white or blue white: Blonde and fair skinned brides should steer well clear of these colours, as this is the most unflattering shade of white if you are pale.  However, stark white can look fabulous on dark-skinned brides.
  • Champagne or oyster white: This is an off-white with pink undertones and is flattering for brides with olive or darker complexions.
  • Latte: This white is slightly darker than champagne and oyster shades, and is perfect for well-tanned or darker skinned brides.
