Polka Dot Wedding

Guest contributor: Ms Polkadot from Polkadot Bride

Polka dots are such a whimsical addition to a wedding. Used subtly or in a bold statement, polka dots are sure to make a stylish statement and make every guest smile.

Colours

Think of an unusual mixes of colours - soft peachy pinks and rich muted teals, moody pale blues and raspberry. Off whites and soft blues and greys, sage greens, creams and pinks are also good options, while touches of metallic gold and silver will add opulence and drama. Black polka dots on white are also very striking.

Styling

For something over the top, go for polka dot linens or sheer polka dot overlays, polka dot ring pillows, polka dot vases, ribbons and bows. For a subtler look, use linens with tiny polka dots. Polka dot bordered plates and coffee cups echoing the colour theme of your wedding are a fun touch.

Favors

It’s all about the accent, miniature notebooks with polka dot bows; polka dot paper wrapped chocolate bars, polka dot covered favor boxes, polka dot shaped sweets (such as mints), custom made sweets or lollipops covered in dots.  We also love polka dot cupcakes - what a gorgeous sweet treat for guests cooked in a polka dot cupcake cup.

Stationery

Think subtle polka dots like the Alannah Rose Mademoiselle Polka Dot Invitation. If going for a bold look, use polka dots on paper bands or borders as accents. Use polka dots on the place cards, tie polka dot ribbon through your order of service booklets, a polka dot sticker to secure the invitation envelope.

Flowers

Brightly coloured flowers are a fun touch especially if they include flowers that emphasise the polka dot feeling such as pom pom chrysanthemums or anemones with their bold black ‘dot’ of a centre.  For a subtle approach, bind the bouquet with polka dot ribbon.

Wedding attire

Look for a gown with a dotted pattern. Michelle Roth, Caroline Herrera and Maggie Sottero have all done polka dot gowns. If a gown is too much, consider a veil with a polka dot pattern, a polka dot tulle petticoat or polka dot covered shoes.

Bridesmaids or flower girls can wear polka dot dresses or use touches of polka dots in a sash or bow around the waist.  And for the groom? Consider a polka dot tie or waistcoat.

Food and beverages

Your cake is a great place to feature polka dots without making all the food feel like a kindergarten party.  Whether they’re miniature dots of icing or larger fondant circles, they will look extra elegant on a simply shaped cake.

Locations

Polka dots look stunning for winter, spring or summer weddings. In winter, the cosiness of an inside venue will emphasise the femininity of your polka dot touches. By using polka dot accents judiciously, you will also be able to bring out the elegance of an inside venue for the winter wedding. In spring and summer you can afford to go a bit more ‘over the top’ with polka dots as they will add a light and feminine touch to garden settings, under trees, beside rivers, on verandahs, or even a deck overlooking the pool or sea.

Pink Frosting sells a gorgeous range of wedding accessories, wedding favours and wedding decorations with polka dots - perfect for your polka dot themed wedding celebration.
