Destination Weddings - Western Australia

Western Australia is a wedding destination like no other place on earth.  From the rugged coastlines and crystal white beaches, to the rich vineyards of the Margaret River, and the remote outback, Western Australia offers a myriad of destination wedding locations.

Meelup Beach:  Samm Blake of Samm Blake Photography loves Meelup Beach for ceremonies and location photos. “Most people seem to dream of getting married on the beach, with the sand between their toes, and Meelup is the perfect beach.”

William Bay National Park:  Along the Denmark coastline is a forest that literally meets the sea in spectacular fashion.  “William Bay in Denmark is one of the most beautiful places on earth,” Samm says.  From one of the most picturesque coastal spots in the park, Greens Pool, you can see the dark green bands of peppermints that inhabit the swales of the sand dunes.  If you time your wedding right, you may find pockets of wildflowers in bloom.

Margaret River:  If you’re looking for a picturesque location in the south of the state, look no further than one of many wineries in the area. Wise Winery near Dunsborough is set in a breathtaking maritime location, with hilltop views looking out to the ocean.

Tips for a destination wedding in Western Australia

• Think about your time of year.  The best times of year to get married in Perth are October, November, March, April and early May.  There tend to be less weddings in January and February as Perth weather sits around 35-40 degrees. Even though the nights are pleasant, having your photographs taken in 40 degree heat is not the best idea.  In Broome and the far north of the state, the best time of year is the dry season – from May to September.  You don’t want to plan a wedding and then find out a week before cyclone is heading into town!
• Book in advance.  November is by far the most popular month and all the best wedding venues and vendors are booked out 18 months in advance.
• Keep it simple.  As Perth is the most remote city in the world, trying to do something different from the norm can sometimes prove to be a hard task. Once you head into the country, this even proves to be a harder task again.  “My best advise is to keep it simple and search the internet for unique and different ideas,” Samm says.
• Hire a wedding planner.  Working from a different location to your wedding can be a challenge.  A wedding planner will know the venue options and vendors and help to make the day run so smoothly. 
• Visit at least once.  For a bigger wedding, at least one previsit is necessary. This means, in the name of research, you just might have to take an extra trip to your stunning wedding setting with your partner. Tough work, but nobody said planning the perfect wedding would be easy.
