Blooming Love Kitchen TeaIMG_8784

Guest contributors: Brie Stanley and Karon Greenaway from Sugarcoated Events

What could be more redolent of a blossoming love than flowers, fruit and sweet treats?  This simple, yet sophisticated kitchen tea theme is the perfect way to spoil the bride-to-be.

Colours

Start with a palette of pale pink and pale mint - these colours will be the basis of your theme, from teacup invitations in pink and mint green, through to the lolly buffet and party favors for the guests.

Decorating and styling

Provide an immediate scene-setter that captures your guests' imaginations from the moment they arrive.  Hang a gorgeous wreath in your theme colours from the front door featuring the happy couple's names.  Then drape a topiary tree in tulle and ribbon for some extra wow factor when the guests walk through the door.

Decorate your party room with wedding bell lanterns and armfuls of seasonal flowers.  Lay out a lolly buffet with a range of glass jars, small boxes and tin pails, adorned with ribbons of mint green and pink and your bride's first initial.  Fill your containers with sweet treats - think pink and white marshmallows, pink musks, chocolates wrapped in pink and mint green paper, sugar-coated almonds and cupcakes.

Activities and games

There are endless ideas for games to play at your bridal shower or kitchen tea.  Here's just one fun suggestion: a jellybean guessing competition.  Fill a large glass canister with gourmet jellybeans; the guest who comes closest to guessing the right amount wins the jar.  See more kitchen tea and bridal shower games.

Food and beverages

Set a long communal table in a gorgeous pale floral tablecloth dotted with vintage plates, teacups and vases filled with roses for that old world charm.  Miniature crisp green and rosy apples are the perfect placeholder; tie a leaf-shaped tag with each guest's name with pink ribbon.

Display a sweet selection of food such as fresh mixed berry muffins, teacup cookies, quiches, bacon and egg tartlets and cakes adorned with mini rosebuds (or personalised with the bride's initial for an extra special touch).  The key is for each item to look personally handmade with love and care!

For drinks, serve mini peach and apricot nectars with pale pink straws and little pink tags around them with words such as ‘I do', ‘cherish', ‘love', ‘happy' and ‘share'.  But don't forget the champagne too!  It's not a celebration without a bottle of bubbly!

Favors and gifts

Give each guest a take home goody bag of pale pink organza, filled with mini chocolates wrapped in pink and mint wrapping and tied with ribbon.
