Peter Pan & the Pirates Party Ideas

Make the party food bright and colourful, but call it “Invisible Food” like in the movie Hook with Robin Williams. The Lost Boys sit down to what looks like an empty table and using their imagination come up with the most amazing and fun food which they then turn into a food fight. Set the table with this fantastic Pirate Ship centre piece and on each end of the table the Jolly Roger decorations.   more »

Mermaid Party Ideas

For an upcoming girls 6th birthday party why not take a journey down into Atlantis where the mermaids live and let your little girl and her friends be mythical mermaids for a day? Australia’s #1 Party Shop can help you make a Splash with their range of Mermaid inspired birthday products. From mermaid invitations, or make your own using Pink Frosting’s Martha Stewart craft collection. When I think of mermaids I think of sparkles – lots of glitter and underwater treasures. Create an underwater Mermaid Cove decorated with blue and green streamers hanging down. Fill a treasure chest piñata with sweets and trinkets (a pirate treasure map or two and some princess trinkets) for the mermaids to watch over.   more »

Beatrix Potter 2nd Birthday Party Ideas

Looking through the great range of party themes on the Pink Frosting website I was excited to see one of my own childhood favourites now in stock ready for parents to snap up for their little ones’ birthday party. What am I talking about? When I was little, a wonderful and imaginative author, illustrator and conservationist by the name of Beatrix Potter was introduced to me by my mum. The stories of Peter Rabbit and his siblings Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail, Jemima Puddle-Duck, Tom Kitten, Squirrel Nutkin, Mrs Tiggy Winkle, Samuel Whiskers and my own close to the heart forever favourite The Tailor of Gloucester.   more »

Start Your Engines Racing Cars Party Ideas

Little boys love cars. They are only too happy to tell you all about Roary the Racing Car and Lightening McQueen and his buddy Mater (as in “Tow Mater”). When my brother James was four years old he would go everywhere with a collection of matchbox cars stuffed in his pants pockets – so many that he could not walk or sit down properly. In his little hands he would hold the two favourite cars for that day. Our cousin Brendan had an even bigger car collection and when they were together all you could hear were two four year old boys making car sounds as they raced their best cars around the floor of the bedroom. It must be something that is ingrained in boys – the attraction to wheels, engines and loud revs. The faster they go, the cooler it is and Disney Pixar got it when they made the movie Cars and Cars 2. Even I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised how cool Cars was when we saw it at the movies (we had no kids at that stage).   more »

Cooking Birthday Party Ideas

So you have a party to plan and host for a soon to be seven year old and are wondering what you can do to keep the kids fed, happy and entertained? I have an idea that will require a bit of prep work, but totally worth it in the end. Inspired by cooking shows that are on at the moment – My Kitchen Rules on Channel 7 and Master Chef on the Lifestyle Food channels, why not host a birthday party where the kids can help prepare the party menu? Like I said, prep work will be required in doing most of the cutting, and plating up the range of ingredients. You could make the whole menu one for the kids to cook, or select one or two things for them to whip up.   more »

Rainbow Party Ideas

Have you ever found yourself wondering where the Rainbow ends, and what would you find if you could reach it? As a kid I would get excited whenever I saw a rainbow and I would wonder where it ended and if there truly was a pot of gold or something more. I loved the children’s cartoon Rainbow Brite, and yes I have a Rainbow Brite t-shirt that I still wear despite being a 30 year old woman. What is not to love about Rainbows? Bright, pretty and a perfect theme for a twelve year old girl’s birthday party!   more »

Weird Science Party Ideas

When it comes to planning kids parties, some of the best ideas come from movies. Take the film Flubber for example. A story about a scientist who creates this incredible green goop that bounces about and sets off a wild goose chase. What a great idea for a ten year olds birthday party? A science theme party where instead of playing pin the tail on the donkey or pass the parcel, they can make their own experiments and learn weird and wonderful things. I’m talking about bubbling volcanos, make your own flubber, jumping coins and kid-friendly lava lamps. The kids will love to sit and try their hand at being mad scientists and the looks on their faces when they make something jump, bubble, burp and stretch will be priceless. A quick search on line can bring up plenty of easy, kid safe science experiments that can be made from items in your own home.   more »

Hello Kitty Party Ideas

So the starlets love her and she is often seen adorning their clothes and accessories. Mariah Carey has her rider (performance demands) set out in that her room must be decorated entirely with her and has an admirable collection of all her products. Who am I writing about? Well she is a little white kitten who is known as Hello Kitty! Next to the rich and famous, Hello Kitty is also loved by little girls the world over. My daughter is a Hello Kitty fan and has a little collection of Kitty dolls and pictures.   more »

The Wiggles Themed Party Ideas

Children can be so finicky. What they like today, they won’t have anything to do with it tomorrow. One thing that I think all parents can agree on is the staying power of The Wiggles. I remember when they first started twenty years ago. I was 10 years old and my baby brother was infatuated with this new children’s show on the ABC. Four men in coloured skivvies danced about with a dinosaur that ate roses, a cheeky dog that barked a lot and a feather sword wielding pirate who would stumble and bumble his way around the set. Kids were hooked and parents were ever so grateful to have a group who not only kept the children happy, but their music was actually fun to listen too. I remember with Chris, the whole family would be up and dancing to Hot Potato and Dorothy the Dinosaur.   more »

Ladybird Party Ideas

The first birthday is a pretty big deal. Over 12 months you have watched your little one grow from little snuggly baby to a chunky, snuggly toddler who is now talking, walking and sending you grey before your time. You want to throw a birthday party for them, invite their little friends and their parents and let the kids have a good time. Obviously at the age of 1, they are settling into solids, can socialise to a point with other children but not actually play the way older kids do. I believe at this age it is called parallel play. But don’t let that put you off from having a party for you little treasure. First birthday parties are so much fun to organise!   more »

Jungle Party Ideas

Is that jungle drums I can hear? Some days when Tilly and Mish are in a mood I can’t help but think I have stumbled upon a jungle with roaring lions, stampeding elephants and cheeky monkeys. There is never a dull moment when you have children, as you run around after your little animals, leaping through the jungle, catching your monkey mid leap, your elephant mid stomp and lion mid roar. A jungle theme party for a first birthday is perfect for your wild one. Indoors or outdoors, you can make it fun, wild and noisy. Stick with jungle colours of green, yellow and brown along with Pink Frosting’s range of Jungle Party and Cheeky Monkey decorations.   more »

Japanese Day Spa Party – one for the little ladies! Treat your daughter and her ‘besties’ to a day spa party with a Japanese twist.  OK – I can’t take the credit for this one – but I do know the lucky girl who has the best mum in the world for creating this unique and very well received party theme (it's the talk of the school playground !).   more »
