If you find yourself organising a kitchen tea or bridal shower, in most cases it would be for your best friend. I found myself in this very position a few years back (Gill's best friend happens to be Pink Frosting founder, Kathryn Porritt)! I have to admit, up until then I had never been to a kitchen tea and so had no idea what they were or if there were certain rules to follow! Looking back on the whole experience, the best tip I can give you is to follow your heart! When Mike and I were dating one of our favourite restaurants’ was this quirky and fun Bollywood themed restaurant. The food was fantastic, the staff was welcoming and warm, the women swathed in bright, pretty saris. The whole place was filled with vivid colours, bright gems and crystals. Fabric was draped off the walls and ceiling and the best bit was the large screen on which they played Bollywood movies. As a child one of my many favourite collections of stories came from the imagination of C.S. Lewis and his Chronicles of Narnia. A place filled with strange and wonderful creatures and a battle waged between a great and wise lion named Aslan and an evil White Witch who sought to control Narnia and all who lived there. The first book called The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe starts the adventure of four children, siblings Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy who are sent off with all the other children to live out the Second World War in the relative safety of the country side. How great is Japanese food? I love it! I am a huge fan of sushi, even more so now I can make it up at home. A few years ago I had the pleasure of stopping by Japan on my way over to Canada and loved the place. Hubby and I really want to take the kids there one day. I think I bought more souvenirs from Japan in the two days I was there than I did in the month I spent in Canada! There are mixed emotions when it comes to giving a woman a trip to the day spa for a facial for her birthday. When I think of 60 year olds, I think of cruises. Watching the travel channel’s program on cruise ships, I couldn’t help but notice that there were heaps of retirees on board, soaking up the sun on the decks and they all look like super relaxed cats – you know what cats look like after getting into catnip? Well that is what these people on this cruise looked like and I thought that would be so nice. When I am 60, I may very well hop on board a cruise ship too! When it comes to planning kids parties, some of the best ideas come from movies. Take the film Flubber for example. A story about a scientist who creates this incredible green goop that bounces about and sets off a wild goose chase. What a great idea for a ten year olds birthday party? A science theme party where instead of playing pin the tail on the donkey or pass the parcel, they can make their own experiments and learn weird and wonderful things. I’m talking about bubbling volcanos, make your own flubber, jumping coins and kid-friendly lava lamps. The kids will love to sit and try their hand at being mad scientists and the looks on their faces when they make something jump, bubble, burp and stretch will be priceless.
