Mother's Day Luncheon Ideas

“Don’t tell your kids you had an easy birth or they won’t respect you. For years I used to wake up my daughter and say, “Melissa, you ripped me to shreds. Now go back to sleep.” – Joan Rivers.  Being a mum is a tough but incredibly rewarding gig. You have many roles to fulfil as you juggle family life. A mum is a PA, keeping family schedules, booking appointments, setting up play dates, managing the pocket money payroll.   more »

Graduation Party Ideas

Oh my goodness! We are now in May! This year is going by too fast and there are tertiary students that are looking at the calendar and feeling the butterflies knowing that in a few months they will finally wrap up their study and hold in their hands the piece of paper, the qualification that they have worked so hard for. Some may be heading off on travels, or their job will see them heading interstate or overseas. Parents no doubt will be feeling just as anxious and excited as their child and if this happens to be you, you may also be thinking about putting together a party for their graduation.   more »

Ideas for Hosting a High Tea Party

If you find yourself organising a kitchen tea or bridal shower, in most cases it would be for your best friend.  I found myself in this very position a few years back (Gill's best friend happens to be Pink Frosting founder, Kathryn Porritt)! I have to admit, up until then I had never been to a kitchen tea and so had no idea what they were or if there were certain rules to follow! Looking back on the whole experience, the best tip I can give you is to follow your heart! I know this sounds a bit corny, but you are the one who knows your friend inside out and therefore your inspiration comes from their favourite things.   more »

Mother's Day Party Ideas

When I was in primary school I remember in the lead up to Mother’s Day we would be busy with craft classes, making gifts for kids to buy and take home to their mum’s for Mother’s Day. Families would donate arts and craft materials and out of it we would make jam jars filled with coloured sand with the lid wrapped in fabric and tied up with a bow. Bars of soap would be wrapped in wrapping paper with a stick on tag saying “Happy Mother’s Day”, little tulle bags of potpourri to go in mum’s underwear drawer.   more »

Ideas for Hosting a Las Vegas Themed Wedding or Party

No place on earth can have a bigger electricity bill than Las Vegas!!!!! An amazing beacon of colourful lights that light up the middle of a desert!  People say how stunning the view is as you fly in over Vegas at night! What a wild and wonderful place! I always think if you are a person who drives eagerly around at Christmas looking at streets and houses adorned with Christmas lights, then you would love to experience this stunning, larger than life, city of bling!   more »

Bollywood Nights - Indian Themed Party Ideas

When Mike and I were dating one of our favourite restaurants’ was this quirky and fun Bollywood themed restaurant. The food was fantastic, the staff was welcoming and warm, the women swathed in bright, pretty saris. The whole place was filled with vivid colours, bright gems and crystals. Fabric was draped off the walls and ceiling and the best bit was the large screen on which they played Bollywood movies. So we could dine, talk and enjoy their movies (and they are pretty cool!).   more »

Mystical Winter Wonderland Party Ideas

As a child one of my many favourite collections of stories came from the imagination of C.S. Lewis and his Chronicles of Narnia. A place filled with strange and wonderful creatures and a battle waged between a great and wise lion named Aslan and an evil White Witch who sought to control Narnia and all who lived there. The first book called The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe starts the adventure of four children, siblings Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy who are sent off with all the other children to live out the Second World War in the relative safety of the country side. They end up at a country manor owned by a Professor Kirke.   more »

A Magic Party!

Okay so turning forty-five can seem pretty daunting. You are now five years off the big five-oh. If you are planning your party or are planning a party for the approaching forty-five year old have some fun with a magic theme. Everyone knows that magic comes down to smoke and mirrors, sleight of hand and sparks. To dazzle and amaze which is what you will do with this party and also turn back the hands of time – forty five? Who’s forty-five? (Wink wink!).   more »

Japanese 25th Birthday Party Ideas

How great is Japanese food? I love it! I am a huge fan of sushi, even more so now I can make it up at home. A few years ago I had the pleasure of stopping by Japan on my way over to Canada and loved the place. Hubby and I really want to take the kids there one day. I think I bought more souvenirs from Japan in the two days I was there than I did in the month I spent in Canada! Their food is so tasty and healthy and sushi night at the Jarvis house is so much fun. So here is an idea for a 25th birthday plan; why not hold a Japanese inspired pre-party dinner? Invite some friends round to enjoy Japanese food and drink before heading out to party the night away.   more »

Day Spa Home Spa Party Ideas

There are mixed emotions when it comes to giving a woman a trip to the day spa for a facial for her birthday. Some (like me) would be eternally grateful that my husband was going to be locked in the house with our two kids whilst I indulged in a facial and pedicure. Other women look at it like the person giving them the gift is implying that their looks are getting the better of them. Each to their own I guess, but at the heart of it all we all love a good pamper. I have even considered a beauty course because it can be so much fun. But for me I love home-made beauty treatments. Yep! Domestic Goddess Home Day Spa.   more »

Starry, Starry Night 5th Wedding Anniversary Ideas

It is funny how inspiration can come from anywhere. For example, when looking at the list of wedding anniversaries, for the fifth wedding anniversary I immediately thought of Vincent Van Gogh’s painting Starry Night (1889). With the sapphire sky and the bright yellow stars that shimmer above the sleepy little village below, I thought that this painting would be perfect inspiration for planning and decorating your venue for a fifth wedding anniversary.   more »

10th Wedding Anniversary Party Ideas

A lot can happen over the course of ten years, especially if it is ten years of marriage. You may have travelled, had a child or two (or three or four!), bought a home, and changed jobs but the whole time as a married couple. Of course you have handled the good with the bad and now you want to mark your tenth wedding anniversary with something special, to thank each other for the commitment and love that is still there and will be there for many years to come. If you ask my opinion, I will straight up say I love a wedding. Any excuse to organise and attend a wedding is a great thing by my book. My husband and I want to renew our vows to mark our ten year anniversary in 2014. For us it is something we can share with our children who were but twinkles in our eyes when we first said “I Do” back in 2004. We want it to be just us and the kids, on a beach and just simple and fun (and maybe gross out the kids who will be 8 and 5 years old).   more »
