"But his arms were so stiff ... they stayed up straight in the air for more than a week, and whenever a fly came and settled on his nose he had to blow it off. And I think — but I am not sure — that that is why he is always called Pooh." Winnie-the-Pooh, by A.A. Milne.

Every child loves the all-time favourite Winnie the Pooh. A big yellow cuddly teddy bear  that has a big heart to match his big tummy. He, along with his friends from the Hundred Acre Wood embark on all sorts of adventures both fun and at times a little scary. All the while Christopher Robin (named after the son of A.A. Milne, the creator of Winnie the Pooh) was there to keep them from too much trouble. A.A. Milne got the idea for Winnie based on his son’s soft toys, and the name from an actual black bear named Winnie who was adopted by a Canadian soldier who, during the First World War had Winnie cared for at the London Zoo whilst he was off fighting in the war. She became a much loved attraction and A.A. Milne’s son was one of Winnies’ fans. Thus Winnie the Pooh was created and has cemented his place in children’s hearts and imaginations around the world.

So get the Winnie the Pooh party invitations written up and have a Winnie the Pooh party. Gather your friends and family and make your way down to the Hundred Acre Wood with Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, Rabbit, Eeyore, Owl, Kanga, Roo and Heffalump. Set up a forest in the back yard, or take the party to a botanical garden or park and by using the right Winnie the Pooh party decorations create your own Winnie the Pooh adventure for your children. Get a big cuddly Winnie and hide him near a tree and have little ‘Hunny’ pots hidden around with a little clue tucked inside as to the where-about of this rumbly, tumbly character. Set up the other characters for the children to play with, organise a Tigger jumping competition where the kids see how far and how high they can jump! Or play Poohsticks – if you are near a little running creek or stream, you stand on the bridge and drop sticks into the water on one side and see whose stick comes out first on the other side. This is a game that Pooh and his friends play in the story The House At Pooh Corner and apparently is now an annual sporting event in Oxfordshire!

Make a picnic blanket a story corner and read a few Winnie the Pooh stories with the kids. For the birthday cake why not have little cupcakes decorated to look like little beehives and honey pots? Other ideas you can use (all available from Pink Frosting too!) are;

Decorate the area with the yellow party decoration pack.

On the tables or picnic blankets set up the bumble bee table pieces

Scatter some sweet treats around and serve the party guests using the Winnie the Pooh party plates.

Guaranteed the children (young and old) will enjoy the day relaxing (Pooh was a pretty laid back teddy after all!) as you celebrate your child’s birthday.
