Wedding Guest Book Ideas

It might seem like a trivial detail in the maelstrom of preparation surrounding a wedding, but wedding guest books are incredibly powerful ways of capturing memories. What was the inappropriate joke that the best man made during his speech? Was it lilies or azaleas in your bouquet that kept making you sneeze? Which bridesmaid did Uncle Milton drunkenly hit on?

Long after the specifics of the day have eluded you, a guest book will stand the test of time. Crammed full of messages from people you love and who love you, it will serve as a time capsule of the happiest day of your life. So make sure you put as much thought and consideration into it as you would the other elements of your wedding.

It's usually a good idea to make sure that your wedding guest book is in keeping with the theme. There is a multitude of options available, including bohemian style leather, elegant organza, classic filigreed satin, understated cherry blossom print, vintage ornate rose detail amongst many others. You're bound to find the right one to suit your needs.

Make sure that your guest book is clearly visible on its own little table with a clear sign. Putting it close to the venue entrance in a well-lit area is a good idea so that people won't miss it. Perhaps add a garland of flowers reflecting your wedding's theme or palette drawing attention to the table.

Whilst you may be tempted to pair it with an impressive blockbuster pen, you'll need to remember that pens have a tendency to disappear. You'll need to have a few back-ups on hand for this eventuality, so it's not a good idea to sacrifice your heirloom antique Waterman to the cause. As long as it's not a bog-standard Sharpie, you need not be overly concerned. Also, be sure to test the pen out before the day, as you don't want ink that bleeds through the pages or causes a lot of smudging.

A clever alternative to a traditional guest book is a celebration box wishing well wherein guests can drop their well-wishing cards. For a more striking effect, they can add their scrolls to the wire-mesh pigeonhole in the beautiful Country Charm Wooden Wedding Wishing Well. It's also a good way of ensuring that any mischievous guests aren't able to thoroughly desecrate all of the messages with their own 'colourful' contributions. We're looking at you, Uncle Milton...

Once it's all done and dusted, don't dump your guest book in a dusty attic. Display it prominently on your bookshelf or give it its own frame so that you and your guests can enjoy the memories.
