Upbeat First Dance Wedding Songs

weddingdancebluelight.jpg

Swaying back and forth while gazing into each other’s eyes is all fine and well, but it’s not your only option. If you and your partner fancy a first dance that takes a bit more skill than shuffling back and forth in a circular motion, then you’ll want something with a bit of a beat. If you’ve taken dancing lessons in preparation for your big day, then you are going to want to show off those awesome moves. You still have to choose wedding music that has appropriate lyrics and intent, which will take some time to research. You’ll have to it listen to a number of times, and read the lyrics carefully. Maybe even look up what the artist said about his or her reasons for writing the song. For example, one popular wedding first dance faux pas is “One” by U2. Sure, the lyrics “We’re one, but we're not the same” may sound perfect for a wedding song because you aren’t the same person, but you are planning to spend one life together. But take a break from reading this post and looking up the rest of the lyrics to that song. Not at all appropriate. There are loads of other songs like this, so research is necessary. But we understand you are busy making sure that your flowers for the wedding centrepieces are medium pink rather than light medium pink, so we’ve done the research for you. Here are our top five choices for an upbeat first dance.

Brown-eyed Girl by Van Morrison

Marrying a lovely, brown-eyed lady? Then this might be the first dance track for you. Loads of fun to dance to, and everyone can sing along. This is a song that oozes with nostalgia, and most people have fond memories attached to it, so why not attach one of the happiest memories you’ll ever have to this classic? Do you remember when we used to sing, sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-dah-di-dah?

Home by Edward Shape and the Magnetic Zeros

Perfect first dance song for the couple who started out as friends. This song is about two best friends who realised that they were more than that - they were soul mates. Not only do the lyrics have great significance for a couple who want to spend the rest of their lives together, but it also has a great beat that you can’t help but get up and boogie to.

You and Me Song by The Wannadies

If you and your significant other are children of the nineties, then you might want to choose a song for your first dance that is representative of your heyday. The lyrics are beautiful and romantic and the music is something you can jump up and down to - just in case you haven’t taken those all-important dance lessons. And it has the added bonus of being of the soundtrack for Baz Luhrmann’s  Romeo & Juliet, which is the most romantic film of the nineties.

Beuna Sera by Louis Prima

Fancy having your first dance to a timeless classic that will give your grandparents a kick? Then this is the first dance song for you. It’s perfect for a first dance because it starts out quite slow, and then the tempo picks up significantly, giving you and your partner a chance to really get down and show off your moves. And he even talks about buying a wedding ring for her finger, so super appropriate.

Happy by Pharrell Williams

This is, without a doubt, the song of 2014. It’s a great choice for a couple who wants to keep it pretty current, but still wants to enjoy their wedding video in 20 years, because, let’s face it, this song will stand the test of time. It’s perfect because it’s all about being happy, and this is the happiest day of your life - even if we’re not quite sure why you would be happy if your room didn’t have a roof.
