Surprise! I'm Pregnant!

pregnantbellies.jpg

Congratulations, you’re pregnant!  What an exciting journey you have begun on the trip to motherhood.  Most people wait until 12 weeks to spill their news so if you’re killing time waiting for this milestone to arrive, I have some fun pregnancy announcement ideas for you.

Slideshow surprise

Been on a holiday lately?  Snapped some great Kodak moments?  Well, tidy the lounge room and prepare the snacks because it’s slideshow time. Invite the family over with the premise of showing off your favourite holiday snaps.  Then do as Chrissie Swan, presenter on television’s ‘The Circle’, did.  Inform your loved ones your favourite shot is the last photo and drop the bombshell with your baby ultrasound picture.  Surprise, I’m pregnant!

Crash your own barbeque

Love the good old Aussie barbeque? Me too! Invite your friends and family around for a casual Sunday afternoon barbeque.  Depending on when you want to spring the surprise and how long you want to chat with people about your news, thank people for coming either before food is served or just before people start to leave.  After thanking your guests, add that you have a little announcement to make and voila!  Pregnancy announced!

‘Save the date’ cards

Now, there are two ways you can surprise people with ‘save the date’ cards.  The first option is send out ‘save the date’ cards to everyone featuring the due date your bundle of joy is due.  Or if you’re super organised, you can actually send out ‘save the date’ cards for your baby shower party.  Not only will family and friends receive a party invitation but I’m fairly sure they will be picking up what you’re putting down.

Pregnancy party

If you can’t wait until the baby shower to talk about all things baby, why not host a pregnancy party?  There’s no better loud and proud way to announce you’re pregnant than inviting everyone over for a party.  The good thing about the pregnancy party is that everyone already knows you’re expecting before they arrive so Nanna won’t be at risk of fainting when she hears her first great grandchild is on the way.

Interior decoration project

When you discover the Stork is stopping at your place in nine months, invite your baby daddy to join you on a little home renovation project.  Decide which bedroom your bundle of joy will sleep in; pick some baby friendly colours and start painting.  When the painting is finished, shop around for cute accessories to dress up your nursery.  Then, start randomly inviting over people for a catch up (probably best to start with family first) and ask them to check out your newly acquired painting skills.  I’m fairly sure the baby cot will give your secret away in two seconds flat!

Shock by social media

So, you’re pregnant and want to announce your news in the least painful way possible? A Facebook announcement will be as quick as ripping off a Bandaid.  Yes, it’s not so personal but if you’re not a fan of twenty questions, this is the way to go.    Facebook news spreads quicker than a virus, so your 500 Facebook friends will do the work for you.  This is not for everyone and you need to consider how your mum will feel if she finds out from your best friend’s cousin’s sister that she’s about to become a grandma.

Wear your heart on your sleeve (or on your T-shirt in fact)

Who needs an announcement when you can buy a T-shirt that says it all?  Australia’s #1 wedding and party shop has some fantastic maternity T-shirts in a spectacular range of designs.  To check out this gorgeous selection, head to the Pink Frosting website www.pinkfrosting.com.au
