Starry, Starry Night 5th Wedding Anniversary Ideas

stargarland.jpg

It is funny how inspiration can come from anywhere. For example, when looking at the list of wedding anniversaries, for the fifth wedding anniversary I immediately thought of Vincent Van Gogh’s painting Starry Night (1889). With the sapphire sky and the bright yellow stars that shimmer above the sleepy little village below, I thought that this painting would be perfect inspiration for planning and decorating your venue for a fifth wedding anniversary. You see, the fifth anniversary is celebrated with the colour of the sapphire gem stone, the daisy flower and gifts of wood (traditional) and silverware (modern). I have always adored this painting and it has captured the imagination of people all around the world, inspiring musician Don McLean to write and record the hit song “Vincent” (Starry, Starry Night). For myself, I was inspired with the depth of the painting and the way the brushstrokes made it appear as if the sky was swirling about as you looked at it. I replicated the technique in some of my own paintings. The painting has always remained with me and I think it would be incredibly romantic to recreate the masterpiece, taking it from the canvas to your wedding anniversary. That is the thing when it comes to planning events - inspiration comes from what is around you, what you have seen, experienced and felt a connection with. It is an amazing creative process.

You can take Vincent’s magnificent work and use it to theme your anniversary party from the invitations and thank you cards – by using blue and yellow glitter in swirls, around the wording of the invitations. Using a paintbrush paint “swirls” of clear glue around the boarder, sprinkle dark blue glitter over the card and gently tap to remove the excess glitter. Once dry, dab little touches of clear glue and dust gold glitter over it for “stars”. Decorating tables with dark blue or black table cloths, soft yellow napkins and crystal water beads in sapphire in clear vases filled with bunches of yellow daisies. Or if you can’t get hold of yellow daisies then put little vases on the tables filled with yellow lollipop bouquets for the guests to take and wave for the wedded couple. For the table settings, a little gift box filled with silver, blue and gold covered chocolates and little silver frames or place card holders for the guests to keep. You can even use the glitter technique for the name cards and then present them within the silver frames. Use dark blue satin ribbon to secure the gift boxes and name tags. From the ceiling, string up swathes of blue and yellow garlands to replicate the brush strokes of Van Gogh along with paper ball lanterns and/or the glass round hanging lights set with tea light candles. The soft candle light will give the effect that Vincent portrays in Starry Night. It will take the breath away of your guests as they enter the party.
