School Formal Party & Decoration Ideas

A bittersweet moment in life for students is the graduation and formals. Whilst excited they are about to embark on the next stage – graduating from primary school, year ten and year twelve. It could also be tinged with sadness as some of their friends may be off to attend other schools or move to another location. This was the case for me, being an Army brat. My year six formal in Sydney I was heartbroken as my best friend (who was also an Army brat) was moving over to Perth leaving me to face high school without her. In year ten it was me who was being posted and the graduation and formal was my goodbye as I prepared to finish my senior years at another high school in another city and some of my friends were leaving high school to undertake traineeships. My year twelve graduation was the hardest as not only were my friends and I now out of the comfort of high school, but our paths were so diverse with some taking up work, some starting university in the same city or moving to another city. As for me, I was packing up again as dad had received his posting from Townsville where I graduated year 12 to Darwin where I was enrolled to start university.

It was at my year twelve formal, which fell on my 17th birthday that my friends rallied and after the formal we returned to one of my friend’s homes where I was presented with a birthday/farewell cake and a little party for just us. It was wonderful to have that time outside of the school formal which was 300 year twelve students in a ballroom, to just me and my best buddies going over the last two years and what was ahead of us.

With that said, why not put a little graduation party at your place for your child and their friends. It gives them a chance to have fun together without all the other students, especially if there a friends moving or going to different schools etc… Australia’s #1 Party Shop can help you put together a fun party for the kids, in any theme you or your kids wish. Why not sit down with your child and go through the guest list and make up funny graduation certificates. Fill the rooms with balloons, lanterns and streamers, fairy lights and pom poms. Pink Frosting has tablecloths, crockery and cutlery in a variety of colours and patterns – spoilt for choice! Set up the iPod, serve up tasty finger foods, and with the school year here in Australia wrapping up in November put on a barbecue (easy catering right there!) for the warmer weather. Let the kids’ dance, sing, muck about and just enjoy this moment together before the next milestone begins.

Get your kid/s to put together the gift bags (filled with sweets) and a tag tied to it on which they can write their own little message/best wish to their friends. Set up a guest book so their friends can write messages for them too. Doing this will be a lovely way for your kid/s and their friends to wrap up the years, reminisce and if there are friends (or even your family) moving away it is a lovely way to farewell and look to the next exciting chapter. Australia’s #1 Party Shop are available to shop at any time (on-line) so you can create a wonderful and fun private graduation celebration for your kid/s and their friends.
