Peter Rabbit 2nd Birthday Party Ideas

rabbitcupcakes.jpg

Looking through the great range of party themes on the Pink Frosting website I was excited to see one of my own childhood favourites now in stock ready for parents to snap up for their little ones’ birthday party. What am I talking about? When I was little, a wonderful and imaginative author, illustrator and conservationist by the name of Beatrix Potter was introduced to me by my mum. The stories of Peter Rabbit and his siblings Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail, Jemima Puddle-Duck, Tom Kitten, Squirrel Nutkin, Mrs Tiggy Winkle, Samuel Whiskers and my own close to the heart forever favourite The Tailor of Gloucester. A tale about an elderly tailor who has fallen ill and is unable to finish the coat with the “raspberry twist” for the Mayor of Gloucester. Whilst he flitters in and out of fever, a group of elegantly dressed mice decide to help out the kindly tailor by making the Mayor’s coat for him despite the tailor’s cat, Simpkin trying to catch a tasty mousy treat (not succeeding either!). I was in love with these lovely little well-dressed mice in their tailored coats, corset and ruffled dresses with little powdered wigs on their little mouse heads.

Her stories held me captivated for hours on end. Even now, I love reading the tales to my own children and they are just as fascinated by it all as I was. Beatrix was a true talent and if I could ever sit down and meet someone famous it would have been her. But I waffle on…As far as a theme for a party, Australia’s #1 Party Shop love Ms Potter and her stories just as much and have a cute range of Peter Rabbit party stock and decorations available for you to start your child’s love of Ms Potter’s tales. This would be a beautiful theme for a second birthday, be it for a boy or girl. With tissue paper daisies hanging around the venue, tissue paper flowers and pom poms decorating the table or tables. Use the rabbit print stencils to create bunny prints around the place. By the cake table a little blue jacket and a pair of little black slippers – naughty Peter Rabbit has snuck in to nibble on the party food! You would think he learnt his lesson after venturing into the Farmer’s garden!

If the party is indoors, Pink Frosting sell these adorable Peter Rabbit and friend’s reusable wall stickers, which also includes a chalk board sticker so the kids can have a turn at drawing on the chalk board. Get super creative and turn the party food table into a garden bed with blackboard stakes with the name of the food written on it, tie items and decorations with baker’s twine, available in different colours - maybe run some along the back of table like a little string fence and weave green streamers up through it to make it look like vines. Add a few paper flowers to it. Set up sugar daisy cupcakes and have the birthday cake to look like a garden bed of little carrots with one on its side and “nibbled” on. On the topic of the cake, Pink Frosting now also sells cake mix. You can either make a sponge cake or a chocolate mud cake (yum!). Add a few cute little pails, some mini garden shovels (to serve some of the food perhaps?). In keeping with the blue of Peter Rabbit’s famous little coat, Pink Frosting have in stock these pretty little blue two piece gift boxes. In them you could include a little packet of carrot seeds for the guests to take home and plant. Before the guests go home, set up a big comfy area for the little party guests to sit down and read them a Peter Rabbit story or two. My kids love the story of Tom Kitten – I actually named my cat Tom after this very story. Such a cheeky little kitten!

Of course you can add the other characters. On the table have Jemima Puddle-Duck Googie Eggs, Tom Kitten Roly Poly Pudding (with raisins for soot). A bowl of blue jelly, with lily pads (made from marzipan or white chocolate melted and mixed with a few drops of green food dye and set in the shape of lily pads) for Mr Jeremy Fisher, the frog.

Australia’s #1 Party Shop loves a great tale and bringing them to life by creating great parties, so hop on line and start organising your little Bunny’s Beatrix Potter party.
