Party Canape Ideas

Pretty little hors d'oevres and canapes create a real sense of party.  Serve gorgeous food with mouth-watering taste and style and you're on your way to guests having one of the best parties of their lives.  There are so many great ways to serve your canapes.  Here are our great ideas to incorporate into your party hors d'oeuvres menu.

Canapes do not have to be a starter - You may opt for a cocktail party where your hors d'oeuvres become the main meal.  You can satifsfy your guests with many morsels of yummy canapes over many hours and the benefit of this type of menu is you will find selections to suit all manner of tastes and eating styles.  If you're serving hors d'oeuvres as the main meal, you will want a minimum of eight to ten choices and estimate that each guest will eat one or two from each selection.

Create canape tables for guests to select from - Buffet style canape selections look spectacular and can keep guest's hunger satisfied for longer cocktail parties.  Create a buffet filled with your hors d'oeuvres selections and mount the platters at different levels for best effect.  Place a swag or garland at the front of the table and don't neglect table decorations in the theme and style of your party on the buffet table.

Hors d'oeuvres should be as decorative as they are yummy - When selecting your canapes keep in mind the style and theme of your event and you can enhance the theme of your party with your food.  Choose green herb garnished hors d'oeuvres for a garden soiree and include bright seafood selections for a beach celebration.

Present your canapes on beautiful serving platters - Ask your caterer to show you the serving platters and plates they will use.  Ask if they have any platters to suit the theme.  I love big bamboo platters for Asian style events and white flat trays for formal celebrations.

Include your classic family recipes - One of my favourite hors d'oeuvres ideas is to include some of your classic family recipes or favourites in the menu.  I  loved the mini cheeseburgers served by a McDonalds franchise owner at his daughter's wedding, and the classic savoury muffins cooked with home grown spinach at a wedding we organised.
