Office Christmas Party Games to Get the Party Started!

officechristmas.jpg

Office Christmas parties can really only go one of two ways. Either it can be boring and awkward where you have the frightening realisation that you have nothing to say to anyone at this company unless it’s complaining about your boss. Or it can be a brilliant bonding experience between employers and employees alike where you have a few too many drinks, laugh together when the boss’s toupee falls off while he’s doing the Harlem Shake, and all agree to go on holiday together in the new year. We want you to have the latter experience, so we’ve put together a list of our favourite office Christmas party games to help you get there.

Desk thief

If you’ve opted to have your office party in the office space, then this is a fun game. It’s very simple – all you need to do is have everyone grab something random off someone else’s desk and put the item in a common space. Then people will take turns to guess which item belongs to who. It’s a great way to see how observant your colleagues are. And if it turns out they’re not very observant, it’s a fun way to get to know your colleagues a little better. How would you know that Gary from Human Resources has a daughter that does drum majorettes if it wasn’t for the framed picture Sally from brand management stole from his desk?

Name that quote

We all have favourite movie quotes. The bad-asses out there might have the whole of Ezekiel 25:17 from Pulp Fiction, oh sorry, we mean the Bible, memorised, while others might just quote Casablanca with, “We’ll always have Paris.” Now is the time to put all the useless knowledge to good use. Everyone must write their favourite movie quote on a piece of paper and put it in a box. Then someone takes a piece of paper out of the box and reads out the quote and people have to guess which movie it’s from. You can get really tricksy if you like and quote some really obscure ones.

The lying game

This is another great way to get to know and bond with your co-workers. Divide your staff into teams and give everyone a minute or two to write down three facts about themselves on a piece of paper – two true and one lie. Give each person a chance to read out their three facts to their team, and the team will then vote on which fact they think is the lie. Each correct answer earns the team a point, and the team with the most points wins. Simple. Watch out for the wild card though… Maybe Tony from the IT department really did steal Mike Tyson’s tiger while on a weekend in Vegas.

Office scavenger hunt

This is another great game if you’re having the party at your office, but it is going to take a bit of pre-planning, so get the list together at least a few days before the party. All you need to do is make a list of random items from around the office: you boss’s “#1 boss” mug, Shirley’s pink stapler, the jar of Vegemite in the fridge that everyone claims doesn’t belong to them. Divide your staff into teams and give a copy of the list to each team. Send them off with the phones set to camera mode and tell them to find and take picture of every item on the list. First team back with pictures of all the items wins.
