New Years Eve Party Ideas in Hobart

When I think of Tasmania I think of cranky marsupials that will eat your ankles, extinct tigers whose ghosts still haunt the forests, convicts, cold weather and beautiful coast lines. Oh I also think of beer when I think of Tasmania. Friends and family have been to Tassie and they love it. I myself have not ventured across the Bass Strait to the shores of Van Diemen’s Land but would really like to. Photos I have seen show it to be very picturesque and quiet, but with a convict history, NYE in Tasmania is shaping up to be as wild as the Tassie Devil that screams through the night.

If you want an indoor event, then check out Hobart Function and Conference Centre where to celebrate the end of one year and beginning of a new one you will enjoy a seven course degustation menu (drinks included), music – local act Double Down will be performing and for a total of $160 per person, you will have the best views of the fireworks. Or help raise funds for two great local charities Hobart’s Women’s Shelter and the Bethlehem House by buying a $165 ticket to Nouveau Cirque at Huon Quays, Hobart. An event for those aged 21 and over, there will be food, drinks, music and lounges to relax. The theme is Nouveau Cirque, but you will not have to dress up like a cast member from Cirque du Solei – just frock up and have fun. For a good cause, start 2012 with a feel good vibe by helping others.

Open venue, head down to Royal Park with friends and family for the big party put on by the Launceston Festival Committee. The Launceston sky will light up not once, but twice! First display is at 9.30pm and then the second over the River Torrens at midnight. Pack a picnic (and some NYE party goodies from Pink Frosting) or buy food and drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) from the venue itself, there will be live entertainment (a tribute band included) and a kids area packed with activities to keep the little ones occupied. With the park opening up at 5.30pm you can purchase your tickets from the Launceston Travel and Information Centre, or buy them at the gates.

Of course Tasmania has not forgotten about the Gen Y-ers with The Falls Festival taking place in Marion Bay from the 29th December to the 1st January. Get your groove as you listen to music or have a laugh watching the comedian acts. It is an opportunity for the males to go all Bear Grylls and get their camping gear out, or for the girls – ‘Glamp It’ over the four days. The festival is situated between lush forests and the ocean and if you are quick enough, you may just be able to secure a camping spot with ocean views. In between performances you can wander off down to the beach and go for a swim. Also remember to slip, slop and slap. Just because it is further south does not mean you won’t get sunburnt. Keep up with plenty of water as you party in your Gen Y festival gear of denim shorts, bikini top, fedora and Ray Bans for the girls and for the guys, well I have seen pics of men walking around in lycra body suits – so for them anything goes really. Where ever you wind up for New Years, in Tasmania I am sure you are going to have some fun (and maybe, just maybe catch a sighting of a Tasmanian Tiger)!
