New Years Eve Party Ideas in Brisbane

Okay so I would say Brisbane is the equivalent to LA. Some may say more like Las Vegas (hence the nickname Brisvegas) and it is where the ridiculously good looking people gather. You can tell a Queenslander from the perma-tan and bleached blonde hair, seriously where else but Queensland right? Brisbane is constantly partying with events popping up every five minutes. I think you would be hard pressed to find five minutes of not doing anything whilst in Brisbane!

So what is happening over the New Year period? Heaps! Check out the Courier Mail for their event calendar. A few fun things that you can check out are the African Safari at Australia Zoo, if you have not been to Australia Zoo I highly recommend it. We will be going there again in the New Year, and if you have children they will absolutely love it. Make sure you sit in on the wildlife demonstrations too. Last time we went, we were lucky to see a presentation from Terry Irwin (she is hilarious) and Bindi sat in the audience with her pet rat! If you can, try and make your way out to the theme parks. You have Dream World (I admit I am a fan of Spongebob Squarepants – and here they have the Nickelodeon shows and rides), Sea World, Movie World, and Wet n Wild to go crazy at and have fun in the lead up to 2012. Just make sure you drink plenty of water and keep sun safe! Sunburn is not a great way to start the New Year!!! For those of you with little kids, I know you can hire out pull carts for the children at Dream World. We used one and it was a life (and back) saver!

Party wise; begin the night by chowing down at one of the many great restaurants Brisbane has to offer before making your way down to the banks of the river for fun and frivolity. There will be fireworks down by the Portside Wharf in Hamilton. A free and family friendly event, fireworks start at 9pm lighting up the Brisbane River. For those who wish to party on, there will be free shuttle buses running out to the Valley from 12.30am. For the younger and tragically hip set jump on-line (noyears.com) and book your tickets to the biggest culture-filled party No Years, at the Brisbane Powerhouse in New Farm. Dance the night away to national and international music acts, mingle around the pop up art exhibitions and emerge yourself in culture and beats. Party starts at 5pm on the 31st Dec and winds up 3am on 1st January 2012

Unwind in the New Year at Southbank, Brisbane’s man-made beach front by the river. Enjoy some cold drinks or a bite to eat from one of the many sidewalk eateries. Pop into the museum and check out the exhibitions. Go for a drive and visit Malaney or Samford, ring in the New Year with some shopping, take advantage of the fantastic shopping on offer in Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Like I said, there is so much to see and do in Brisbane; you will come back with a perma-tan, bleached hair, finishing your sentences with “eh!” and will definitely be needing another holiday (and for that I would recommend a trip to Darwin)!
