New Years Eve Party Ideas in Adelaide

newyearspartydecorations.jpg

Adelaide or as a friend of mine calls it ‘Radelaide’ is the city of Churches, but looking at what is going on for New Year’s Eve it is going to be anything but Holy! I have fond memories of Adelaide, it was where I undertook my RAAF recruit training and during my down time I would head off to visit my family or spend some time down at Glenelg beach. It was where I had the most insane New Year’s Eve party later that year at my Uncle’s house. That year I will always cherish for I had an absolutely stunning Drag Queen give me some make up tips (which I adhere to this very day!). On a side note, it was that holiday in Adelaide that I came across Drag Queens that look better than the real woman! How is this so? The one that gave me makeup advice at the bar, I was gobsmacked by how incredible she looked – definitely put me to shame! My Uncle kept laughing at me, apparently the look on my face, I honestly could not tell if they were Drag or not! At my Uncles’ place for our New Years’ Eve party we all put on garish wigs, painted our faces and just had fun. By the way, if the Mars Bar is still going, pop in and catch a Drag show. So much fun! You may even find yourself being called up on stage by the emcee (or maybe that happened to me because my awesome Uncle had teed it up beforehand?)

I loved shopping in Rundle Mall, and as a kid I remember running around and making faces in the reflection of the big silver balls that stand in the mall. There are some lovely parks and gardens around the city and beautiful churches and during spring and summer Adelaide is at its prettiest. This year you can head in to the Inter Continental Adelaide NYE at Riverside Restaurant where you can enjoy a buffet dinner and afterwards dance away in the Atrium Lounge and at midnight make your way out on to the terrace for the best views of Adelaide’s fireworks display. Gen Y get your bums into gear and make your way over to Rymill Park, Adelaide for the annual Summadayze Festival where you can enjoy performances by Moby (DJ set), Bliss N Eso, Grandmaster Flash with many more performers to be announced. It starts on the 31st December and wraps up on the 1st January and you party through the night under the stars.

For the families or those seeking something slightly tamer, at Elder Park the fun starts at 7pm with live entertainment and two fireworks displays one at 9pm and the other at midnight. Throughout the city there will be many clubs, pubs and bars open for you to carry on carrying on until the wee hours of 2012. If the Pie man is in the city (we found him outside the casino), definitely grab yourself a pie floater – it is an upside down meat pie covered in pureed peas and smothered in tomato sauce or gravy. My dad bought me one after my recruit graduation and I gotta tell you, pretty good stuff!

I also caught a brief glimpse on the Adelaide Council page a new pilot activity is going to be happening over summer where artists and street performers will pop up throughout the city – be sure to keep an eye out!
