Japanese Spa Day Party Theme for Kids
Japanese Day Spa Party – one for the little ladies! Treat your daughter and her ‘besties’ to a day spa party with a Japanese twist.
OK – I can’t take the credit for this one – but I do know the lucky girl who has the best mum in the world for creating this unique and very well received party theme (it's the talk of the school playground !). And you too can easily pull it together with the help of your local Asian Grocery, a quick trip to the $2 shop, and a few essentials from Pink Frosting, Australia's #1 online party shop.
Start with the invitations – simply print out the invite with all the details on to thick white paper, and then glue Japanese origami paper on the back. There’s a great online shop for Origami paper, or you might be able to find it in your local bookshop or newsagency too.
On arrival – dress your front door using either a Japanese flag draped down the door, or simply buy a length of red fabric & hang it down the centre as one long panel, and glue some of the origami squares in a diamond shape on to it. A nice touch is to also have a bowl filled with frangipanis and floating candles at the door too, to give it that ‘day spa’ feeling. (Hint: if frangipanis aren’t in season you can always get faux frangipanis!)
Day Spa Treatment Menu – using the Origami paper again on the back, print up a Treatment Menu card each for the girls to see what’s instore for them - everything from a pedicure and manicure, to face masks, neck & shoulders massage, and Japanese punk hair piece extensions! (easy clip-in ones)
Spa Packs – using black paper party/lolly bags, make up ‘Spa Packs’ for each of the girls to have on arrival. Place in each bag the Treatment Menu card, a clear plastic shower cap (for the face mask moment to keep their hair back), rolled up white face washer (to wash off the mask), hand-fan (a chic treat to keep them cool & relaxed), nail polish (for the Pedi and Mani), and chopsticks (for the party games – read on). And then seal the bags with either a cute little Japanese motif sticker.
Treatment room – set up tatami mats on the floor (or you can join up yoga mats or black foam floor tiles); then as head cushions, roll up white towels & place a frangipani on each. Here the girls can lie next to each & gossip as they have their treatments. (Enlist the help of a couple of your girlfriends to be the spa attendants with you)
Other little touches – play Asian inspired relaxing Spa Music in the background, and have lots and lots of scented candles and bowls of flowers placed around the room for that chilled spa vibe.
Party food & drinks – easy-peasy-Japanesey.........lots of fresh sushi and sashimi (they love those little avocado rolls!), bowls of edamame (Japanese fresh bean snack), and little packets of rice crackers, and for a little sweet treat they love those Japanese chocolate wafer “Poky” sticks. Serve drinks out of gorgeous Japanese ceramic tea cups, or you could buy those cute little cans of Japanese soft drink (‘try before you buy’ – there are some crazy flavours out there!)
Party games – once the girls have had their treatments and are refreshed and relaxed, a great game that works well with the Japanese Day Spa theme is the “Chopstick-Pick-Up-Quick” game. Using either those baby sized marshmellows, or smarties, or combination of, the aim of the game is to see who can pick up the most treats the fastest, and the winner gets a special prize (makes them wait until the end before they can eat their loot too!). Origami folding is always a great little challenge too, and another way to incorporate that beautiful Japanese paper.
Party bags – well it wouldn’t be a party without leaving with a party bag – and the Japanese theme is great for all those little trinkets & treats – pop in those cute packets of Japanese lollies, gorgeous little Kokeshi dolls, lots of stickers, and anything “Hello Kitty” of course!
End on a high note – after the Spa Party, head on down to your local Tepanyaki restaurant to really treat the girls to the full Japanese experience!
