Ideas for Winter Weddings

winterbride.jpg

Winter may seem an odd time to celebrate your marriage when we Australians are so enamoured with beaches and sunshine. However, snow, fireplaces and faux fur appeal to even the most suntanned Aussie's romantic side.

When Katherine Heigl celebrated her wedding last year with a winter theme, the popularity of icicles and fireplaces as a theme shot through the roof. Here are a few of our favourite winter wedding ideas.

Colours

Winter isn't all white, although this should be the basis of your winter themed wedding palette. The other hues of winter are shades of blue, soft green, blush, silver and taupe.

Styling

Get married outdoors in the snow. Don your most impressive white faux fur and celebrate with your guests in the snow.  Your choices in Australia may be limited, but Thredbo is truly stunning, or you could always pop next door to Queenstown for a Kiwi affair.

To decorate your winter wedding, take your inspiration from icicles. Think chandeliers, candelabra, mirror circles sprinkled with crystal ice and acrylic garlands.  Hang glass votives from white-sprayed tree branches, drape crystal garlands from the ceiling and hire in an enormous chandelier as the reception centrepiece.

Favours

Favour ideas for a wintertime wedding can keep with the icy crystal theme.  Glass votives, sparkling blingle bells and silver snowflake photo coasters all take centre stage.

Flowers

Winter blooms can be just as amazing as their springtime companions.  Your options for seasonal winter blossoms are Anemone, Bird of Paradise, Bixia, Blossom, Camellia, Sim Carnation, Pixie Carnation, Cyclamen, Daffodil, Dahlia, Daphne, Delphinium, Earlicheer, Erica, Freesia, Gerbera, Heliconia, Hyacinth, Hydrangea, Jasmine, Jonquil, Kale, Australian Natives, Nerine, Phaly Orchid, Tropical Orchids, Cymbidium Orchids, Poppy, Ranunculus, Rhododendron, Rosehip, imported Roses, Rosehip, Stock, Sweet Pea, Tropical Claws, Tulip, Violet, Wattle. Gymea Lily, LA Lily, Oriental Lily, Tiger Lily and November Lily.

Food and beverages

Serve warming winter fare for your guests. Beef casseroles, warming vintage red wines and deep puddings with winter berries and homemade vanilla infused custards.  And mulled wine spiced with cinnamon is the perfect beverage with which to toast the happy couple!

Pink Frosting sells a glamorous range of winter themed wedding decorations, wedding favours, wedding accessories and more to help you bring your winter wedding theme to life.
