Ideas for Nostalgic Kids Parties

Do you find yourself longing for the simple life of yesteryear? When children ran about and played pre-computer games instead of hiding out behind a DS or console? My five year old daughter and two year old son love Angry Birds, they were introduced to the game by one of their uncles and now if they can get their hands on Dad’s iPhone they will set up and play the game (I don’t even know how to work an iPhone!)

That said my children also love playing with “old school” toys. Matilda loves her paper dolls and Hamish has a wooden truck that he drags from one end of the house to the other. I love to watch their imagination grow. With birthday parties you can take your children back to the good ol’ days with a beautiful and fun nostalgic themed birthday party. No technology, no CGI characters, back to basics of being a kid. You will enjoy putting together this fabulous party and the children (young and old) will love it.

First you start with ordering your party supplies from Australia’s #1 Party Shop – they have a cute range of nostalgic party decorations and treats. Belle and Boo are sure to make things fun for the children. Or you can choose from the range of polka-dot and stripes. String up bunting and balloons and serve the yummy food on the cute paper plates. Decorate the classic sponge cake with adorable Belle and Boo cake toppers and frill. Around it serve up lamingtons, make up little marshmallow ice creams (little marshmallows in the tiny ice cream cones and topped with icing and sprinkle/glitter), the classic chocolate crackles, fruit salad, fairy bread and fairy floss. Guests can sip cordial in their Belle and Boo cups with cute paper straws.  Or fill the cups with jelly. Set the centrepiece on the table and fill with lollipops and rock candy. I love the pinwheels and could see them being used to decorate little cupcakes.

For the party games, get the children together to kick about a ball, play pin the tail on the donkey, add a hula-hoop or two for a hula comp, once you start hula you never want to stop! No nostalgic party is complete without a game of Duck, Duck, GOOSE! And musical chairs, pass the parcel and what’s the Time Mr Wolf? If there is still energy to burn, hold and egg and spoon or potato sack or three-legged race. Set up a table for the children to sit and make their party favours. Activities like paper dolls, making peg people or caterpillars out of egg cartons. Take empty matchboxes and make them into little cars or treasure chests. If you have spare stockings, let the kids take a piece of stocking and fill it with dirt and grass seeds, stick on bobble eyes and over time their little “pet” will grow green grassy hair.  Have the kids start the party by making their own party hats. All these handmade gifts are sure to be treasured by the little hands that have made them.

A nostalgic children’s party is a wonderful opportunity to relive your childhood and show children that not everything fun requires a database and pixels! Sometimes simple is best and Pink Frosting is on hand to help you make your child’s party one to remember for all the right reasons!
