Hop Down the Aisle! Easter Wedding Ideas

eastercenterpiece.jpg

Are you getting married on or around Easter? Are you going to incorporate Easter into your ceremony and reception? Would you like to do this but need some nudges in the right direction? Hmmmm…let’s see what we can come up with then!

To give your wedding decorations a touch of Easter without going over board is easy. If you have the time to get crafty even better as I have some great ideas for you to consider:

Here in Australia, April is the middle of autumn so the weather is starting to mellow out, the morning and evening air fresh and crisp. The gem stone for April is the diamond, so why not dazzle in diamond accessories (cubic zirconia) but in different colours? Set your tables at the reception with diamond scatters or place diamond bouquet pins in the floral centrepieces. Tie back the chair sash with a diamanté clasp and use candle light to capture the sparkle and glisten. Wedding bonbonniere give your guests a little gift bag or a cute little birds nest with the tiny chocolate eggs. For the children at your wedding buy the empty plastic egg containers (check out Spotlight) and fill them with jelly beans and tie with a ribbon and a name tag. At the Bridal table have two little white flocked rabbits surrounded by flowers and candles. Serve your guests hot cross buns with coffee at the end of the reception. Usually there is a bit of a wait between ceremony and reception as the happy couple and the bridal party vanish for extra photos. The guests will make their way over to the reception venue and mingle over cocktails and canapés until the newlyweds return and the reception begins. In that time, and especially if there are children attending, set up an Easter egg hunt at the reception venue. Have the MC gather the children and inform them that the Easter Bunny visited and has hidden Easter Eggs around the place. Hand them a little basket and then let them set about finding the eggs. It will keep them occupied and the parents happy until the reception begins.

For the crafty and hot glue gun equipped why not try your hand at some of these ideas:

Have you seen Faberge eggs, those elegant and elaborate decorated eggs? Bejewelled and ornate they are very pretty and pretty pricey. That said you can make your own with the help of hot glue/hobby glue, crystals, glitter, pearls and your bridesmaids on hand. For the egg base you can either opt for the plastic eggs like the ones for the kids bonbonniere, or your local craft shop may have paper machae  or polystyrene eggs. Simply glue coloured crystals, pearls, glitter over the surface and once dry the eggs can be used to decorate centrepieces. Why not decorate larger eggs and use them as the table centrepieces? One in the centre of each table with flowers around the base. Monogram the eggs with your initials! The colours and style possibilities are endless; it is up to you. Pink Frosting has the Martha Stewart range in store – glitters, decals, paper cutters and decorative punches, pom poms, lanterns, paper flowers, jewels basically everything to create and decorate your Easter touches.

Make up place cards in the shapes of rabbits or eggs – in black card and written on in gold, silver or white pen. Make your own chocolates, which is actually very easy to do. You just need the chocolate moulds, heaps of chocolate (I use Cadbury’s) and lots of patience as you have to melt the chocolate without burning it. If you over do it the chocolate can take on a bitter taste. Once melted you fill the moulds, add in your own touches like chopped up peanuts, marshmallows, honeycomb, and sultanas, popping candy, chopped up jelly babies, edible glitter and then just set in the freezer. To stick the two pieces together, simply dab melted chocolate over the flat surface then put the two halves together and place in the fridge/freezer to set. Voila! All you have to do then is gift wrap them or place in boxes for your guests to take home and enjoy.

Your wedding does not have to scream Easter Bunny Madness, but by adding the little touches, the handmade touches it gives your day a cute and memorable take on Easter for the guests. Pink Frosting stocks all the DIY you need to help inspire you to create some amazing memories and gifts to cherish. There is something nice about looking at your wedding day and thinking to yourself “I made that!” Means so much more.
