I would make a terrible Sports WAG. I have no interest in anything remotely athletic. Maybe that is why David Beckham married Victoria over me. I would have been the wife in the bleachers reading a novel, learning how to crochet or attempting to work my way through a book of sudoku puzzles…blindfolded. Oh and I would do it all in my standard of jeans, t-shirts and my ever trusty old pair of purple Converse sneakers. I am nowhere near as glamorous as Victoria Beckham. At school to get out of gymnastics; I “lost” my PT shorts the night before. My mum covered for me by writing a letter to my PE teacher informing him that I had indeed misplaced my shorts and that in her opinion they had been abducted by Aliens. As soon as I was able to drop PE in my study schedule, I did.

Anyway, instead of being picked up by ‘Becks’ – a sports star, I married ‘Bargie’ - a sports fanatic. Mike loves to watch the ice hockey, baseball, rugby, cricket, V8’s. State of Origin the kids get to stay up late. Not because it is the State of Origin – the old war between Queensland and New South Wales, but because Mike forgets he is in the lounge room and will hoot and holler whilst channelling Tom Cruise jumping up and down on the couch thus keeping the kids and the entire neighbourhood wide awake and well aware of who was in the lead! I was born in Victoria so I am not fussed either way who wins the series; I have to get the couch fixed.

I suppose my involvement in sports is inevitable as our 2.5yr old son displays a knack for and interest in sporting. I can see I will be there on the side lines with a tray of oranges and water bottles, forking out sums of money for training camps and equipment and I will also be the mum that puts together the end of season party for him and his team mates. Oh my goodness, I just realised I am going to be the Nutri-grain Mum (but my hairstyle will be better!) As for my five year old daughter, her idea of being athletic is to be a model in “pretty sparkly clothes and makeup with my hair out like this” (pulls her hair out in all directions whilst striking a pose).

So with two avid sports fans in the house now, perhaps I should consider the odd sporting party every now and then? What would I do? What would Victoria do? Well, that’s easy – she would pay for someone else to organise it all for her, the only task she would have would be to design the outfit she would wear and find the most insane pair of leg lengtheners (stilettoes). I can’t pay for someone to organise it for me and I don’t really like wearing dresses and cannot walk in high heels, so my only option is to jump onto Pink Frosting and start putting together a party for the big and little sports fans that would have Becks kicking himself that he didn’t marry me!

Some suggestions for a team party;
