Easter Themed Baby Shower

easterspringsetting.jpg

Are you or someone you know expecting the pitter patter of little feet over the Easter holiday? Are you organising a little or big “get-together” for it? Have you thought about making the most of the Easter festivities by incorporating Easter into the baby shower? The religious aspect aside, Easter is about new life (and chocolate) – hence the images of hatching fluffy chicks and frolicking lambs in the paddock (well the gifts Mike’s parents send out from Canada have frolicking lambs). Not entirely sure on the rabbits role in all of this, but maybe because the rabbit is such a prolific breeder they too represent new life along with the duty of delivering Easter eggs throughout the world? Plus with a chocolate laden treat bar, the mum to be can get her fix of chocolate cravings on the day! Bound to make any expectant mum happy, I believe that pregnant women are what keep the chocolate industry booming. When I was pregnant with Matilda I lived off the giant kit kat bars and drank copious amounts of chocolate milk and whilst I was chowing down and filling out, Matilda would wriggle away happy. I was convinced that when she wanted chocolate she would simply yank on the umbilical cord which triggered the insatiable craving for Cadbury’s. Almost six years down the track, Matilda is the biggest chocolate fiend going.

Anyway. Easter is such a lovely time and everything is bright, colourful, shiny and full of fluffy bunnies and chicks. It is a perfect theme for a baby shower; celebrating the little hot cross bun in the oven (okay bad pun out of the way!) You can go for bright vibrant colours or keep it to soft pastels. Fill the room with balloons, streamers, strands of bunting and flowers, all sure to put a smile on the guest’s faces when they arrive. If you are super creative get your hands on some of the Martha Stewart lanterns, pom poms, accessories and with coloured card, glitter and touch of paint decorate them to look like eggs, rabbits and chicks to hang up on display.  Set out the bright cutlery and crockery, present some of the food and treats in little baskets lined with cute napkins and have your guests tuck into pregnancy friendly nosh and drinks like a Passionfruit Punch. For this you will need:

  • 2 cups orange juice
  • 6 passionfruit
  • 2 cups pineapple juice
  • 2 cups of lemonade

Into ice cube trays pour about half of the orange juice in and freeze overnight. Before the party cut the passionfruit in half, scoop out pulp. Mix in jug with pineapple and orange juices, add lemonade and serve over the orange juice cubes. This will serve 6 and overnight freezing aside, prep time is 10 minutes.

Set out a fabulous cupcake stand, filled with hot cross buns and cute bite-sized cupcakes decorated to look like Easter eggs and bunny rabbits with bright patty pans, glitter, sprinkles, fairy floss and colouring. Fill little birds nests with the tiny Easter eggs and place around the room for the guests to snack on.

After the food, fun and games – including having the baby belly painted up to look like an Easter egg, thank your guests with goodie bags filled with lollipops, cookies in Easter shapes and either a cute little bunny or chick toy. Pink Frosting is the shop you need to put your baby shower together with bunting, balloons, baskets, cake and cupcake stands, cutlery and crockery all in the one location you will not have to look anywhere else, so “hop” to it and get your cotton tail over to Australia’s #1 Party Shop!
