Decorating with Vases

13030.609.jpg

I love vases. I collect them, all shapes, styles, colours I adore them. Throughout my home I have some of my favourite vases on display but I don’t use mine for flowers. I have a vase filled with my favourite shells, another with ornate glass beads I had found at a beading shop. I have a clear vase that I have decorated with buttons, another with crystals. If you are planning your wedding and are looking at table decorations, add a delicious pop of colour to your venue with these new country glass belly vases from Pink Frosting. Available in three different sizes you can dress them up anyway you want!

When it comes to vases for centrepieces, if you are going to use flowers then the type of flowers will dictate the type of vase you will need. For long stemmed flowers, then you would use a taller vase like the column vase, cylinder vase, hurricane vase and flare vases . Being such a tall vase, you can jazz it up with water beads or coloured glass pebbles. I had a friend who added a few drops of food dye to each vase to colour the water. With the tea lights around the base of it, the whole set up looked amazing! Prop the vase up on a stand and underneath it place a little LED light which will make the water “glow”. For shorter stemmed flowers, smaller and shorter vases like cubed, cone, brandy balloon types. For something really different set each table with a country glass belly vase (new to Pink Frosting) but on each table make it a different colour or different types of vases. Mix it up; you don’t have to have everything matching. It will definitely stand out!

Australia’s #1 Party Shop has an extensive range of vase ware for your special day and you don’t necessarily have to use them for flower arrangements. Why not bling them up with some crystals, diamanté’s or ribbon? For my sister-in-laws wedding we used a fishbowl vase and filled it with jelly beans – dark pink and light pink. Around the middle of the vase I wrapped light pink, dark pink and yellow thin ribbon (frangipani colours) and secured it with a little bow and little diamanté’s. I then set the fishbowl vase on a square mirror and around it placed dark and light pink tea lights, some sand and a few little shells and star fish. For the rest of the tables we used assorted shaped vases filled with the jelly beans and decorated with the ribbons, diamantes, tea lights and shells and star fish. It looked amazing and the guests loved the vase full of jelly belly jelly beans! I like the idea of using different shaped and coloured vases on each table to make it that little bit quirky. With the help of some hot glue or glass adhesive you can add your own embellishments such as the ribbons, crystals or buttons! Or keep the vase plain but fill the inside with water gel beads, glass pebbles – I have even seen vases with goldfish in them! Fill them with sweets, or water with floating flowers, tea lights or petals (the cube and rectangle vases would be great for this look). Actually for the rectangular vase, fill with crystallised coloured sand and add a little rake and some pebbles and let the guests play around with their Wedding Reception Zen Garden!

Adorn the flowers with crystals – column vases; add strands of crystals amongst the foliage. Or for the smaller arrangements, on top stick in crystal letters or numbers for each table. The centre pieces are going to be the conversation starter. Your guests will sit down and immediately look at it and start “Oh that is a beautiful vase” or “What a clever idea! Jelly beans instead of flowers!” or “I love the flowers and I have to know where they found these spectacular vases!” I know when I go to a wedding I look at the tables and what is on them, in particular the centre piece, but that is in part to my obsession with vases! If you are providing your own vases for your reception but can’t take them back home with you (i.e. married in another city or you just don’t have room to store them) why not gift them to family members? Organise for a family member or friend to make sure that after the wedding the vases go to good homes, and for those who get to take them it will make them very happy to have such a splendid keepsake that they can use and put on display – a reminder of your wedding.

I hope that this has given you some food for thought and if you want to use some of these ideas all wedding decorations are easily found at Australia’s #1 Party Shop – Pink Frosting!
