Tis’ the season the office rejoices

So the head office sent out the memo and now everyone is talking about it around the water cooler, whilst lining up to use the microwave in the kitchen or by the filing cabinets and snack machines. The memo mentions that the Social Club will be responsible for putting together this year’s Christmas party and the pressure is on. Fairy bread and footy franks are not going to cut it. You are going to have to make sure the whole party runs smoothly, however try as you might someone is going to photocopy their bum. I am pretty sure that is in the Book of Office Shindigs. I hope for you and your colleagues it is a decent looking bum! That and you will be witness to some seriously daggy dancing and some incredibly bad karaoke. But that is what an office Christmas party is all about!

Some businesses hold their parties at a bar or restaurant, some may be happy to hold it in the office. Either way if you happen to find yourself on the Christmas Planning Committee you are going to have to go in with guns blazing to make sure that it is the Christmas Party of all parties and who knows, it could get you a promotion? Everyone looks forward to the Christmas party, it is a chance to unwind, pack away their work until the New Year and cut loose. It is the release of all the hard work and getting excited about the holiday season, spending time with their families and travelling, and it is so important that you get the decorations just right to set the tone. I miss the office Christmas parties of yesteryear... I am now a stay – at - home mum with two young kids and I juggle working from home and study at university. I have a home office but the Christmas party, although fun isn’t quite the same (although we do have the daggy dancing after a few cups of cordial!) and my kids love to belt out ‘All I Want for Christmas’ – yeah, thanks Mariah Carey.

I miss watching the guys get up and demonstrate their dance moves, the games and laughter at the year that had somehow gone by in a blink. Heading out with the Office Party guru to choose the decorations and organise the catering. Designing the invites and posters for the party – I love to draw.

The decorations are now out in the shops (we are still in October!), so you have plenty of time to start deciding on the colours, decorations etc. You can opt for a chic Christmas look or go for the fun and kooky or stick to the traditional. Why not make it an Aussie Christmas instead of the standard white snow and jolly man in the big red tracksuit. The end result is always going to be a party that the office will definitely remember thanks to the invention of the iphone and office e-mail.

For all things Christmas Cheer to spruce up your Christmas office party try Pink Frosting's Christmas shop for inspiration.
