Cruise Ship 60th Birthday Party Ideas

nauticalcake.jpg

When I think of 60 year olds, I think of cruises. Watching the travel channel’s program on cruise ships, I couldn’t help but notice that there were heaps of retirees on board, soaking up the sun on the decks and they all look like super relaxed cats – you know what cats look like after getting into catnip? Well that is what these people on this cruise looked like and I thought that would be so nice. When I am 60, I may very well hop on board a cruise ship too! Then I thought, what about those turning 60 who are not too keen on or can’t go on a cruise? Instead of cruising the seven seas and fattening up of cruise ship food why not hold a Cruise Ship themed 60th birthday party? Who’s on board for this?

Send out the cruise ship boarding passes to your guests, inviting them to the P&O party ship (aka your home or other venue). As they walk up the red carpet and come aboard the birthday cruise, they are greeted by the Ship’s Captain (Party Host) and presented with a cocktail and garland lei which you can make using the frangipani decorations from Pink Frosting. Hang streamers with fairy lights along with shimmering banners and string decorations, a few little potted palm trees (real or fake) and railings to stop your guests from falling overboard. Tape up a shuffle board and have a few rounds of the game with the guests. Play tropical themed music, mixed with the show tunes (have to have the Love Boat theme song in there too!). Plastic tubs of cold drinks and trays of cocktails and champagne decorated with retro drink charms and fruit straws for fun.

If you can, set up deck chairs for people to sit on with beach towels. Throw in a few beach balls, disposable cameras for the guests to take pictures of their cruise party and dance the night away. Enjoy a large smorgasbord of cruise ship inspired fare – plenty of fresh seafood and salads. For the finger food use the cute pinwheel picks. In the centre of the buffet table use the white wooden letters to spell out the birthday cruiser’s name or just a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY. A Bar and grill to keep them all fed and sated as the party goes on into the wee hours of the morning (I imagine that despite being 60, you can still party till late – I intend on doing so!). To complement the dinner you have to also include a spread of desserts and candy for the guests to enjoy (check out the Aged to Perfection cupcake and cake decorating kit for a giggle). As the guests sing happy birthday, hand out the party poppers for them to pop at the end. See them disembark at the end of the cruise with a gift pack filled with cake, treats, post card and bag tag. Follow up the party with thank you cards of which you can buy ready made from Pink Frosting or make your own using their range of Martha Stewart products – glitter, paper embossing tools, stickers and embellishments.

Australia’s #1 Party Shop can help you cruise into your 60th birthday with the right decorations and ideas. So make like the Queen Mary II and set sail for a birthday party to remember!
