Creating Perfect Wedding Table Settings

There are so many ways to create the perfect tablescape for your wedding reception.  The trick is understanding all of the elements and bringing them all together.  Too hard?  No, not with the help of the experts at Pink Frosting!  Here's our guide to creating perfect wedding table settings.

Start from the centrepiece and work from there - The most integral part of the wedding table is the centrepiece.  It brings the whole tablescape together and is the interest that you can build upon for the rest of the table setting.  Think about your wedding theme and what you dream about your table looking like.  Do you dream of tall crystal vases dripping with crystal garlands and massive rose blossoms on top?  Are you dreaming of hurricane candles sitting in coloured sand flecked with baby starfish for your beach wedding centrepieces?  Whatever you decide, remember that flowers are only one option - you could include fruit, natural materials like driftwood, candles, mirrors, potted plants, fish bowls, birdcages, candelabras and more.  You can read about our ideas for unique table centrepieces for more inspiration.

Consider the table style - If you're having long narrow tables, think about centrepieces that are long and narrow to ensure that you have enough room for the other elements of your tables.  You can move the decorations upwards with paper lanterns sitting close to the tables and hanging from the ceiling so guests don't feel they aren't decorated enough!  For round, oval and square tables, your centrepiece can be much larger and taller and still leave room for conversation and crockery to sit prettily.

Add candles for ambience - Candles are the quintessential wedding decoration and because they make such a remarkable transformation to any space with very little budget requirement, they are our must-have for creating perfect wedding table settings.  Candles in glass votive holders, pretty tealights and fat pillar candles all make beautiful and very cheap decorations for your tables around the centrepiece.  There is a beautiful selection of wedding candles in many styles and themes at Pink Frosting's wedding shop.

Linen needs to be clean and crisp - For almost every theme, a white linen table cover is a must.  You can add colour and interest with a table runner and your centrepiece, but unless you are very skilled at decorating, white linen is the simplest and most beautiful table cover you can choose and best of all - most venues include this as part of their package without any extra charge!

Chairs need to work with the table - Consider your chairs part of the table settings.  If your venue doesn't have chairs that fit naturally into the decorations and your table setting theme, then you should think about hiring replacement chairs that do or chair covers to suit your theme.  Chair covers now have so many beautiful options - you can create the perfect chair for any theme and event with the help of a great hire company in your local area.

Placecards are a must for more than one table - If you're hosting a typically sized wedding of around 80 guests or more, you will definitely need to let guests know where they are seated with a place card.  Table settings that include place cards don't have to look boring - consider using your place card as a decorative bomboniere that guests can take home with them after the event.  There are many styles of decorative wedding place cards and weddng place card holders to browse through for any theme and budget at Pink Frosting's wedding shop.

Rolled, folded, knotted or gathered, napkins finish the table settings - Don't neglect including beautiful napkins in your table settings.  Beautifully crisp napkins in a contrasting shade to the centrepieces and table linen can make a table absolutely perfect.  Consider personalised napkins which make a unique statement about your wedding day, or tie your napkins with a personalised ribbon or hand written place card to make the napkins work harder for you as decorations.

Talk to the venue, caterer and hire company about glassware, cloths, china and flatware to suit your theme and budget - Your wedding vendors know so much about weddings and what is available that they can be the best source of unique ideas on how to create the perfect wedding for you.  Even though your caterer may not be providing decorations, they have probably been involved in hundreds of weddings and have seen themes similar to the one you have your heart set on.  Talk with them about your ideas and they may have some to share with you too.
