Bridal Garters

ws7168.jpg

The humble garter is no longer simply a band of elasticised satin! Oh no!  Stylish brides and lingerie designers have brought the garter to the forefront of any savvy bride’s accessory list.

Bridal garters can be as traditional or as contemporary as you dare. An experienced lingerie designer can create a bespoke garter for you in the style of your wedding theme, or you can choose from an array of beautiful styles online.  Here’s some of Australia's number one online wedding shop, Pink Frosting’s favourite wedding garter trends…

Themed garters

Specialist lingerie designers can create bespoke garters.  Hand dyed ribbon, embellishments, crystals, fabric flowers and more can be used to create themed garters for beach weddings, oriental weddings,  Spring weddings and weddings styled on colour such as black and white.

Something blue garters

If you don’t have a blue-themed wedding, but want to stick with tradition, a blue garter can be just the ticket. It’s hidden from view and allows you to honour the tradition of something old, new, borrowed and blue.  Pink Frosting’s best selling garter is (unsurprisingly) blue - the whimsical crystal heart in the Blue Crush garter is a favourite with brides.

Make a statement

Because it’s hidden from public view until you’re ready to show some leg later at your reception, your garter allows you to have some fun with your bridal accessories on your wedding day.  By the time it comes to your bridal toss, your guests will be ready for some frivolity, and you can fling your personality garter with loads of good humour.  Imagine superhero and sporty garters which are sure to have the bachelor boys at your wedding jostling for prime position!

Honour thy traditions

The tradition of brides throwing their bridal garters is said to date back to 14th century England, when wedding guests believed owning a piece of the bride’s wedding dress would bring good luck. A bride would often be assailed at the altar by hordes of guests competing for the prize and her dress was sometimes torn to shreds.  To keep the dress (and themselves) intact, brides began throwing their bridal garters to their male guests. Sometimes the men would become rowdy and attempt to remove the garter from the bride themselves, and so it became custom for the groom to remove the bridal garter from his bride’s leg and throw it himself.

This isn’t a delicate and restrained custom, but a delicate and pretty garter is the best nod to tradition, always. Lacy, handmade, adorned and pretty is a beautiful traditional style for your wedding garter, and is always in fashion for brides.

Australia's number one online wedding shop, Pink Frosting has a huge range of themed, traditional and contemporary bridal garters for every style of bride and wedding.  Shop our beautiful range of wedding garters now.
