Bowling Party Ideas

You want to host a bowling party. Why wouldn't you? Bowling is fun. Everyone loves it, no matter their age or skill level. And those shoes… So cute. Before you leap into it though, it might be worth reading our little guide on throwing the ultimate bowling party.

The most important thing to establish is where you are going to be hosting the party. A local bowling alley would be ideal, but these aren't always well located or conducive to the party you have in mind. If you go for the alley, find out what kind of packages they offer. This will determine how much energy and creativity you should invest in planning.

If you're hosting it at home, you can go nuts. Send out some personalised bowling party invitations festooned with balls, pins and balloons. Give in to your inner pun-demon with phrases such as 'Strike the date' or 'Roll on over'. This is the occasion for a bit of retro kitchiness so don't hold back on any cheesiness.

The dress code is simple. Jeans, bowling shirts and bowling shoes; fun, cute and practical! Girls can have some retro 50s fun with pouffy skirts and ribbons in their hair, while the boys can slick their hair back.

Decorate the tables with bowling party table runners and banners. Hand each guest a personalised bowling party water bottle as a party favour. It'll also help them stay hydrated throughout all the fun.

When it comes to refreshments, junk food is the traditional option. We're talking hotdogs, burgers, fries, milkshakes and soda floats. If that sounds like overindulgence to you, feel free to swap in some healthy options. Make some healthy sandwiches, then just cut them into bowling pin shapes.

For party games, it's a no-brainer. Bowling! If you're hosting it at home, you might not want to put your beautiful floors at the mercy of heavy bowling balls and pins that could scratch the finish. Opt instead for light plastic pins and rubber balls.

Put a fresh twist on it by creating your own games. Maybe try blind bowling, with each player blindfolded and pointed in the general direction of the pins. Then there's ‘Truth and Dare Bowling’, where every even number means the player has to perform a dare and every odd number they have to answer truth. Or make a giant bowling pin piñata filled with sweets.

Of course, if you're having it at home and are worried about damage to your property, there's the no-risk fun of virtual bowling. Set up the infectiously fun Wii Bowling and watch the entire party clamour to join in.
