Bollywood Nights - Indian Themed Party Ideas

When Mike and I were dating one of our favourite restaurants’ was this quirky and fun Bollywood themed restaurant. The food was fantastic, the staff was welcoming and warm, the women swathed in bright, pretty saris. The whole place was filled with vivid colours, bright gems and crystals. Fabric was draped off the walls and ceiling and the best bit was the large screen on which they played Bollywood movies. So we could dine, talk and enjoy their movies (and they are pretty cool!).

We love our spicy food and if we find an Indian restaurant we have to check it out. If the place is decked out Bollywood style, we know it is going to be a fun place to eat. So with that in mind, why not make your next birthday party inspired by Bollywood? I love the Peacock invitations and matching stationary available from Pink Frosting. You can choose from a variety of colours. Set the dress code Bollywood style, so get your Sari on! Decorate the party room with pink, green, yellow, white, orange, blue, purple and red paper ball lanterns and amongst them suspend beautiful hanging tea lights for that pretty sparkle. Pin or tape up swathes of bright pinks and gold fabric along the walls and maybe drape fabric from the ceiling.

Around the room you can place ornate antique-ivory finish “lucky” elephant tea lights with lots of flowers. Some classic Indian flowers (and of which you can find varieties right here in Australia) are Jasmine (yes, I am named after this flower – it is one of my mum’s favourite flowers), spider lily, ylang ylang, frangipani, hyacinth, gardenia and roses. Big bouquets mixed with coloured paper tissue pom poms. Indian jewellery is so pretty, so make sure you incorporate that into your décor with crystal scatters and crystal strands with glitter scattered about with flower petals on the tables. Use the wooden elephant place card holders to hold facts about India and some Bollywood movies. The guests will love reading them.

Mix in a touch of Bollywood in your music selection for the party. In keeping with the You Tube dance clips for weddings and parties, why not rehearse your own Bollywood dance routine with some friends for a bit of fun at the party? As a little gift to the guests use the personalised acrylic luggage tags and put in them a picture of the Taj Mahal and an old map of Imperial India (the time of the British Rajah). Have hot pink organza bags filled with gold wrapped chocolates for the guests to take as they leave at the end of the night too.

The best bit of the night will be the food! Make it as hot and spicy as you like (or what your guests can handle!) Madras, Vindaloo, Mango, Masala (yum!). Pappadams and naan bread of which can be filled with cheese or garlic to help soak up the curry sauce. There is a little Indian restaurant in Richmond, Sydney that makes chocolate naan bread! To help offset the heat of the main dishes have platters of mango, rose or plain lassi – a delicious cool yogurt drink for your guests to sip on. Bananas and slices of cucumber can also help cool the tastebuds too. Have platters of fresh fruit to accompany your Bollywood birthday cake. With all the bright colours, sparkle and spices the senses will go into overdrive and your guests will definitely enjoy their Bollywood soiree.

You can find all your Indian themed decorations fitting the Bollywood colour palette and style right here at Australia’s #1 Party Shop.
