Best 1st Birthday Party Ideas for Boys

sweetatone_v1_cc2.jpg

Just like first birthday parties for little girls, your son’s first birthday party is more for you than it is for him. Sure, he’ll have a good time, play with his friends and enjoy the cake, but if you think he’s really going to be bothered of the theme is planes, trains or automobiles, he’s really not. So this is your chance to go all out on the little boys’ birthday party you’ve always wanted, before your little tyke has an opinion of his own, which he probably will by the time his next birthday rolls around and he’s talking the hind leg off a donkey. Of course there are many ways you can go for your special little boy’s first birthday party, but if you’re short of ideas, here are four eternal crowd pleasers.

Little boy blue

Just as many little girls love pink, the same is true for little boys and blue. Perhaps this is social conditioning from the day they were born with the blue “It’s a boy!” banners your friends hung up when you came home with him from the hospital, or all the blue baby grows you got at the baby shower. Or maybe it’s the lighter shade of cerulean you painted his bedroom walls. No matter the reason, little boys love blue, and all that that implies. So that means blue party supplies like tablecloths and paper crockery, blue balloons, and a blue “Happy 1st Birthday!” banner. And of course the blue icing on the cake is, well, icing on the cake.

Choo-choo trains

Even though a one-year-old boy has little in the way of party preferences, one thing is pretty much universal – they love trains. Riding on them, seeing them chug past out of the car window, and of course, playing with toy trains on build-your-own tracks are all popular activities with little boys from the moment they learn to recognise things. We have great train party supplies like invitations, décor, and party favours for train themed birthday parties in both plain train and animal train, so you can choose which one best fits your bundle of joy’s personality. And remember to have loads of toy trains and tracks for the birthday boy and his friends to play with.

Up, up and away

If trains are going to have any serious competition when it comes to vying for a little boy’s attention, we’re going to give it to airplanes. Ever taken your tot to the airport? Such excitement when they see the planes on the runway, and even more so when they see them taking off. Give the plane party theme a bit of an edge and do vintage planes rather than Boeing 747s. Of course adorn the area with airplane themed decorations, an airplane shaped cake is a necessity, and we have some great airplane cupcake wrappers and straws to complete the look. And if you really want to go the extra mile, you can get one of those coin operated airplane rides, which are available for hire from events companies, or you might be able to find a cheap one to buy online.

Circus in town

A circus birthday party for your little one is actually pretty gender neutral, but we figured the girls already have so much good stuff that we’d pop this one on the boys list. This is a theme you can have a lot of fun with, because unlike many of the other themes, this one comes with built-in entertainment that can be enjoyed by one-year-olds. Think clowns, jugglers, and face painting. And we’re not going to lie – a lot of the parents are going to enjoy these aspects of your son’s birthday party as well. The words “circus” and “animals” do tend to go hand-in-hand, but we’re not really fans of having animals being trained to do tricks for our amusement, so keep the circus animal theme to the décor and cake and make the entertainment exclusively human.
