A Magic Party!

Okay so turning forty-five can seem pretty daunting. You are now five years off the big five-oh. If you are planning your party or are planning a party for the approaching forty-five year old have some fun with a magic theme. Everyone knows that magic comes down to smoke and mirrors, sleight of hand and sparks. To dazzle and amaze which is what you will do with this party and also turn back the hands of time – forty five? Who’s forty-five? (Wink wink!).

Once you have sent out the invitations to all your friends and family inviting them to this magical themed party (remember to add glitter into the envelope), you can set about gathering all the props and decorations you will need to create a venue to resemble either a vintage carnival side show alley vibe or go all out for the Las Vegas magician show. Australia’s #1 Party Shop has all the right products and ingredients to work your party planning and set up magic – a little more than smoke and mirrors involved for sure! Decorate with lots of balloons, streamers and all things that sparkle. On the tables scatter clear iridescent dove glitter (a representation of the magician’s doves) mixed with top hats and stars glitterfetti. Tissue paper bouquets are a must, although these look better as table decorations than being hidden up magician’s sleeves. Use the coloured streamers to represent the scarves that magicians are constantly pulling out of their sleeves and top hats.

If you are going for the Las Vegas style of magic show party, why not have a bit of cheeky fun with it and add a stuffed toy tiger or two (a la Siegfried and Roy). On the tables have a different “try it yourself” magic trick, you tube is the perfect place to watch demonstrations on how to make a coin disappear and reappear etc, even though true magicians never, ever reveal their secrets a few party tricks can’t hurt! Include with the materials the instructions and watch as the guests have fun trying their hand at making a little magic. Ideas for party attire – dress up as a magician with the billowy white shirt, unbuttoned. Tight leather or vinyl pants, and knee-high boots. The hair should be long-ish and swept back in a slight bouffant in the front. The ladies can come as the magician’s assistants or grab a friend and have one of you dressed all glam from the waist up and the other in a shirt, leotard and stockings – the sawn in half trick!

Hold auditions and have a professional magician work the room. I had a magician at my hen’s night party and it was so much fun (he also looked a bit like Tom Cruise during his Interview with a Vampire role – swoon!). He, she or they (could hire a troupe) are a great way to get the guests laughing and amazed with the antics and tricks by the magician. Have a cake made to look like a rabbit being pulled out of a hat. Name each table setting after a famous or fictional magician. As a little thank you gift for your guests, have them take away a little mirror box or tulle bag with a “magic” coin inside with hand written instructions on how to make it appear from someone’s ear. Or a deck of trick cards for them to dazzle and confound their friends with back at work.

Sure a magician may never reveal their secrets, but Pink Frosting is available to help you work your magic on creating the most fun and thrilling birthday party ever!
