10th Wedding Anniversary Party Ideas

A lot can happen over the course of ten years, especially if it is ten years of marriage. You may have travelled, had a child or two (or three or four!), bought a home, and changed jobs but the whole time as a married couple. Of course you have handled the good with the bad and now you want to mark your tenth wedding anniversary with something special, to thank each other for the commitment and love that is still there and will be there for many years to come. If you ask my opinion, I will straight up say I love a wedding. Any excuse to organise and attend a wedding is a great thing by my book. My husband and I want to renew our vows to mark our ten year anniversary in 2014. For us it is something we can share with our children who were but twinkles in our eyes when we first said “I Do” back in 2004. We want it to be just us and the kids, on a beach and just simple and fun (and maybe gross out the kids who will be 8 and 5 years old).

I think ten years is the perfect time to renew your vows, remind each other of the promises and commitments. You can arrange something for your friends and family to attend or just your besties, the celebrant and the two of you. Ten years is the Diamond anniversary, traditionally the gift you give and receive is tin or aluminium, but if you want something more modern, diamond jewellery is the new gift (eternity ring for those still waiting?). The beautiful daffodil is the anniversary flower and you can incorporate it into your renewal either with the actual flowers or the colour of your party to acknowledge it, so yellow ribbon, yellow ceremony sand, or flashes of yellow in your reception and stationery.

Use diamond accents in your reception dinner, such as the champagne toasting flutes. Pin diamonds into your bouquet, your hair. Embellish little wedding favour boxes and also include a bottle stopper (diamond theme of course). For Mike and me, I’ve already picked out what we want for our anniversary ceremony. For us it is going to be a ceremony by the beach with our children as our witnesses. We want to celebrate it with them and spoil them too because we love them so incredibly much.  As a family we have weathered deployments, postings and the ups and downs of a defence life. Tilly is now at an age where she is noticing her Dad is missing many of her important milestones due to his career. So this ten year anniversary would be as much about our incredible kids as it would be about Mike and I being married.

I’d wear a simple white dress, knee length and a diamond pin in my hair. I’d carry a little bouquet of frangipani’s and in the bouquet add a few little crystals and tie it all together with a yellow ribbon. Tilly will wear a little tropical print dress and Mike and Mish will wear white shirts and linen shorts. Being a diamond anniversary it is the perfect time to put your worn and weathered wedding rings into the jewellers for a touch up and polish so they are just like new! We’d include in our renewal the sand ceremony, making the commitment a family thing, not just between Mike and me.

We’d give Tilly and Mish a gift each too at the ceremony and afterwards for the reception set up a private area on the beach, set up with beach towels, paper lanterns, candles and a small bonfire where we can enjoy a picnic dinner, some music, dancing and games as the sun sets. The big treat would be the next day where we would all head off together for a familymoon.

Pink Frosting were not around when Mike and I got married, but they are here now and will be where I go to put the touches to mark my ten year wedding anniversary with my family.
